I disagree with the "7th forward" phrasing, though I agree with the underlying point. My quibble is that a guy who is the heart of your 3rd line and can play in your top 6 isn't usually your 7th-best forward, he's usually more like your 4th or 5th best forward.

Yes because it is almost for sure that he becomes at least that...imho that's what makes a guy like Horvat, and Lazar so valuable...on top of that I also easily see him playing in the top six. He's a do everything prospect which are very valuable.

I compare him to those guys as well. He doesn't have Lazar's shot and is more of a playmaker, but all 3 of these guys project to similar roles as guys who are almost definitely at least going to be good two-way, all-around third liners but have higher upside.

Barbashev is not a blazing fast skater, and rather than out-dangle his opponents, he prefers to out-think them, analyzing situations as they develop and making shrewd decisions. He also posses all the tools to make his schemes reality, as depicted by his 25 goals and 68 points in 48 QMJHL games with the Moncton Wildcats this past season.

I think Poile's fishing, but I don't think he'll get any bites on that pick.

I'm coming around to Barbashev at 11 - unless one of the more dynamic guys falls (Ehlers, Nylander, Ritchie, etc).

barabshev reminds me of malkin, has such calm demeanor with the puck and can pass/shoot better than most

I like him, but:
Ekblad
Reinhart
Bennett
Draisitl
Dal Colle
Ehlers
Nylander
Fleury

I think those 8 are pretty much guaranteed to go in the top 10 (not a huge fan of Fleury but someone will take him).

Then you have a bunch of guys like Fiala, Kapanen, Perlini, Virtanen, Ritchie, Fabbri, and even a rising Milano who can all be in the mix for a top 10 spot.

I could see someone liking Barbashev at 10 but I don't think it's certain at all, and I think it's more likely he goes at 15 than he goes at 10.

As a Stars' fan, the only guy out of the top 8 you've listed that I want more than Barbashev is Ritchie, who could play with his brother Brett in Dallas. I love Barbashev though (at least the scouting reports and highlights I've seen. Pair him with Nuke on Dallas' 2nd line in a few years.

I'm incredibly high on this guy. I really hope the Preds take him at eleven. Although it's a long shot because Poile hasn't taken a Russian since 2004.

Has everyone forgotten about this guy? Was totally expecting Washington to pick him in the 1st round.

Doubt it happens, but I hope he drops to the 3rd round and gets picked by Winnipeg or Toronto. Would be an absolute steal for either team.

Seeing as he would have been a viable choice anywhere after 10, he must be on a lot of teams' "do not draft" lists. I'm hoping the Canucks can pick him up at 36.

Doubt it. He has to be going in the first 15 picks tomorrow. Then again, I would've said with very little doubt he'd go in the 1st round

No way he drops to the 3rd round. hoping Leafs move up into the 2nd round and grab him.

I highly doubt he's on teams DND lists, they just had other players rated higher, simple of that.

Moving into the early 2nd round would be a great move for the Leafs or Jets. Both teams could really use a player like Barbashev, and I sincerely hope that both teams try to make a move.
