What's the deal with Sorenson? Quebec can't keep 3 imports correct?

They can keep 3 because Grigs is a 1st rounder, and Kucherov isn't expected to play until October or November. If there's a full NHL lockout, Sorensen will be traded modt likely.

Seems to really be trying out there and seemed to have a great attitude which is great to see. Puck skills are evident and good hockey sense as well. His linemate Jaskin when he has the puck does is not as willing to give up the puck which is evident in his stats where he has alot more goals than assists. On the pp was on a unit with Duruelle and other players with very limited skills who couldn't seem to handle a simple pass. Seemed to be very snake-bitten this year so hopefully the goal can get him going. I feel if he were on a stronger team he would be having more success or playing in a league like the OHL or WHL where the bottom teams aren't quite as weak as the weak teams in the Q. The Q is much stronger this year but I don't think there is much parity. Some teams are loaded with 5-6 elite prospects and serviceable capable players while others have maybe one legit NHL prospect if they are lucky.

When you look at Moncton they are supposed to be among the top 5-6 teams in the league. The problem is they are very top-heavy, they have 5 very good forwards that should be carrying this team.

Unfortunately, Barbashev is among those 5, but he is still very young and adjusting. So right now they are struggling. It is true that aside from those 5 guys, they don't have a whole lot on forward. Guys like Penny and Deruelle are far cry from what teams like Halifax and Boisbriand have on their 2nd and 3rd lines.

Looks to be doing very well as of late.

48 Points in 49 games.

Can anyone comment on his play as of late who watches him every so often?

Saw him months ago, probably October. Didn't notice him too much but had some flashes that wowed you. For one of his first games adjusting I'd say it was pretty good. Nice skating, used his size well to his advantaged and to protect the pick. His skill was obvious and on full display on some shifts.

Can't comment for the season, just the one game I saw.

Cool, thank you!

He is playing well and showing some high level skills although his impressive stats have a lot to do with linemate Jaskin who has been the best player in the league these past 2 months.

I've watched him play every home game this season. He's adjusted quite well and is really picking things up as of late. Looking much more comfortably recently since being moved to the wing(Danault took center). Very sooth skater and has uses bursts of speed to fool defenders. He has soft hands a gets shots of quick. Strong wrister , usually shoots down low. Lethal wrap around because of his speed , scores from behind the net often. He's a playmaker but not a perimeter player. He likes to bang and goes into the dirty areas. Has a nose for the net and picks up alot of rebounds due to positioning. Used on the second powerplay unit. Has great vision and reads plays well. Producing over 1ppg since the formation of his new line alongside Jaskin/Danault. Has improved his defensive game steadily since arriving and plays good in all 3 zones. Has a fantastic work ethic on and off the ice. Willing to learn and eager to improve. Danny Flynn is also showing more confidence in him , hence more playing minutes. I fully expect him to be a 1st round pick next draft , probably mid first, maybe top 10. His ceiling is very high.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the thoughts. I'm looking forward to Moncton coming to Gatineau in the near future so I can go see him my self.

Glad to see he is adjusting well to the NA game. It definitely helps playing on a dominant line with Jaskin and Danault.

Barbashev scores his first of many this year, 11:30 in the season. He's definitely a player I'm very excited to track and get more of a read on this year. The first few looks I've had have left me impressed though.

Looked like a weak goal, but played well. Uses his body, plays both ends and had a courageous and well executed shot block. Uses his size and can shield the puck with ease. Good vision and has a hard shot, could be the Q's top prospect this year.

Definitely a first round talent. He looks bigger and faster than he did last season. Great at holding onto the puck, I see him as more of a playmaker despite his hat trick tonight.

I don't see him ever being a true game breaker though, more of a 50 point player you can rely on in any situation.

I expect he goes somewhere between 20-25 in the draft

Top15 , arguably top10.

I don't see why people don't put Barbashev in their top-10. He's amazing and he's got everything going for him.

Size, speed, great hockey sense, a lot of scoring talent, offensive skills galore, etc. Can definitely lead a line by himself.

Plays really physical as well so far this year. He's a complete forward that can break games open. Can make plays out of nothing.

So he's on a lot of scout's top-15 predictions , some top-10's.

He's having a great year and has been super hot lately.

In 41 games played this season , 23 goals , 36 assists for 59 points.

How's his defense?

I mentioned it in the Tkachev thread as well but he and Barbashev have unbelievable chemistry. The team who takes Barbashev in the 1st round would be very smart to take Tkachev too.

That would be a very smart move for someone to do. Would love Burke to get those guys in flames jerseys.
