I see him developing into a valuable two way centre similar to Mike Richards, Ryan Kesler, David Backes. I think he's a safe bet to make the NHL and I predict he will go 9 or 10th overall.

Pretty much all of this, not necessary the actual comparisons but he's going to be a do everything guy and I'd take him in the top 10.

I am hoping he falls to detroit but dont feel good about it never did feel he would not get into the top ten his game translates. If he was canadian he would be a very high pick.

I think Barbashev compares favorably with Horvat, but he'll never get that same kind of hype.

Im so happy people are finally catching on with Barbashev. Was a pleasure to watch in Moncton, especially after being paired with Tkachev. Would not be upset with him at 8th overall in Toronto.

But someone's gotta change the thread title. He isn't a winger, he's a centre who plays all three forward positions.

I only saw Moncton play once this year live (in Charlottetown). He looked like a solid mid-first round prospect to me. He played the wing. Tkachev is really impressive but small, unfortunately, at 5' 8".

Really want this kid to land in Philly. Highly doubt it though, no way he makes it past DET.

I see Ivan becoming an very solid two-way C/LW who plays in all situations. A top pk, and 2nd unit pp guy who could pot 15-25 Goals, 20-30 A, and 35-55ish points depending if he's playing on your 2nd or 3rd line.

He has a lower chance imo to bust, and will likely become a teams 7th forward ie elite 3rd line C...but definitely has a strong chance of becoming a teams #2C.

In conclusion Barbashev is the type of player every team covets, and will be a hot commodity come draft day. I have Ivan 9th on my final draft list.

So his projected output is Darren Helm? Seems a little bit short, but I tend to overvalue prospects anyways.

I think everything you've described is his floor. He had 68 points in only 48 games while being heavily relied on for defensive responsibilities--he's got much more offensive potential than he gets credit for because he missed part of the season. Look for him to put up point totals in the neighbourhood of 95-100 next season. You have to remember, at this time last year he was touted as a top five player for this draft.

I think your not understanding where i'm coming from. I love Barbashev as a player, and if my nucks could get another high first i'd want him(have him 9th on my list). I don't like the whole ceiling/floor argument. If i were to use it i'd say his floor is a elite 3rdC, and his ceiling a below average #1C with his likely potential being a #2C.

Now i said i see him as a 35-55 point guy who could be your 7th forward to your Elite #2C, and you said i underrated his offensive potential which is fair, but here's my argument for why you are wrong.

The average #1C scored ~67 points this season(average pts from the top 30 leading C's). The average #2C scored ~46pts this season, and finally the average #3C scored ~35pts.

So based on those #'s my projections are bang on, and not underrating at all... if Ivan had scored 55 points this year in the NHL he'd have been the 28th highest scoring C while play tough defensive minutes(i think we'd both agree thats an outstanding player that anyteam would covet).

Anyway i do believe Barbashev could become one of the best, most complete player in the draft :yo: . So i'm sorry if it appeared i was bashing him, or undervaluing him.

That's fair, OEL. i wasnt bashing you or thinking you were bashing barbashev, im just kind of protective because theres been all kinds of idiots using all kinds of stupid reasons to detract from him. Hes a high quality prospect and im a h7ge fan of his. I spent the better part of the last year trying to tell people why hes as good as i think he is and everyone just keeps saying DERP RUSSIAN FACTOR LUL

Yup no Russian factor at all haha...he's easily a top 10 pick.

I personally have never seen a true "game changer" type skill from him. He doesn't have one glaring strength, but no real weaknesses either.

I still think he ends up as a coveted 3rd liner who can suit up on the 2nd line if needbe. Certainly a prospect everyone would love to have. He seems to have little chance at busting.

Yup his likely potential is a 7th forward...the teams Swiss army knife.

The playing style isn't exactly similar, but he will be somebody's Joe Pavelski. Put him literally anywhere in the lineup and he'll adapt and excel. These players are rare, whoever gets him should be dancing all the way to the bank.

I like him, but:
Ekblad
Reinhart
Bennett
Draisitl
Dal Colle
Ehlers
Nylander
Fleury

I think those 8 are pretty much guaranteed to go in the top 10 (not a huge fan of Fleury but someone will take him).

Then you have a bunch of guys like Fiala, Kapanen, Perlini, Virtanen, Ritchie, Fabbri, and even a rising Milano who can all be in the mix for a top 10 spot.

I could see someone liking Barbashev at 10 but I don't think it's certain at all, and I think it's more likely he goes at 15 than he goes at 10.

So you would take that type of player top 10 without a doubt?

Yes because it is almost for sure that he becomes at least that...imho that's what makes a guy like Horvat, and Lazar so valuable...on top of that I also easily see him playing in the top six. He's a do everything prospect which are very valuable.
