STL would be wise to extend a camp invite to Tkatchev.... Him and Barbs work so well together....

You guys got a great prospect. Good character guy too from what I hear (kinda the anti-Kabanov lol)

I am still shocked that Buffalo didn't take him at 31. I was so happy when the Devils selected Quenneville at 30...leaving Barbashev available....now I wish NJ would have taken him.

The biggest steal in this draft. Similar to Tarasenko at 16th few years back. You'll be more than happy with him. If not for russian factor he should have been in top 5.

He actually reminds me a little of Tarasenko with his style. Very skilled and very high compete level. Decent size too. Like to see him add another 10 lbs. He should challenge for a roster spot in 2015. Top 6 skill imo. Love to see him centering Jaskin and Tarasenko in a few years. That line would be relentless.

I don't know about that, with Goldobin and Scherbak going before him. I heard that one reason he fell is because scouts aren't sure about his offensive skills translating to the NHL...but even if he doesn't pan out offensively, his all-around game, defensive ability, and power forward game make him a decent bet to be a 3rd liner, no? What are others' opinions as to why he fell, given that many pegged him to be a top 20 or perhaps even top 15 pick?

I get that teams had concerns about his long term offensive potential, but for someone with such a complete package, I'm surprised nobody took him in the first. He seems like a very safe bet to at least be a good third line player in the NHL. I'm ecstatic he fell to us at 33. Frankly, I wanted him at 21, but that's because I thought both Fabbri and Schmaltz would be gone by then.

The blues got a steal here, can't believe he fell this far. I had him at #12 on my list (not that I'm credible by any means :)), absolutely love his game. Fabbri was #13 on my list as well I think, great draft for St. Louis.

I'm shocked he made it past #20 , let alone into the second round. Great pick up for the Blues. He now joins his bestfriend and former teammate , Dmitrij Jaskin. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tkachev get an invite to complete the trifecta. Another surprise at draft day is Tkachev not getting drafted. He was ranked in the second.

That's pushing it. I was as big a fan as anyone and had him #9. I can't see putting him any higher than that really. It seems scouts were more concerned that his skating among other things might keep him from ever translating his offense enough to be a second-liner. I don't agree with the concerns being to that level, but I can understand them. Other guys with similar concerns about ever having enough offense to be more than third liners went ahead of him, like Larkin and Bleackley, but Larkin at least is a bit better defensively, without the puck, and in his skating. The Russian factor is always a factor to some level, but it's not the sole thing that pushed him to #32.

I was really hoping the Blues would pick him. I think he and Jaskin will be an effective duo in the NHL in a few years. I was fine with taking him at 21 before the draft started, so getting him at 33 is great. He seems like a very safe pick to be at least a 3rd liner. I like safe picks.

Gotta love how we are now looking at Russians to help us.

Tarasenko, Barbeshev, Jaskin (technically), and Letunov. Skill and size galore!

He's a big steal, saying he's top 5 is nonsense though.
