Not a bad idea. Zibs scoring ability and shot could translate very well on the wing. I know Expectations maybe higher because he was a first round pick but Chytil could be the perfect #3c

Expectations are higher because he's one of the top posession players in the AHL and has 1st line talent. He would be an excellent top line winger or 2nd line C IMO, not far from Nylander's future.

I didn’t mean to make it seem like I thought his ceiling was a #3C. I just meant in the next few years with Zib and Andersson and even Howden if none move to wing he could hold down the #3C. But moving Zib to the wind might make the most sense. His shot is ridiculous. I can see him being a 30-35 goal winger in the right situation.

Is there a new global database or are you just extrapolating Relative numbers through someone manually tracking Hartford? Even if it's the latter, would you mind linking it please? I'm always looking for more sources. Thanks in advance.

The source was posted in the Chytil prospect thread. You can probably find it by doing a thread search of possession or corsi.

Yzerman gets way too much credit. He's the most overrated GM in hockey IMO. His team missed the playoffs the past 2 years. Find me another GM whose teams did that and gets his butt kissed.

Well I would trade Pierrre Dorion for him in a heart beat... He comes out on top on nearly every deal he enters. Resigns key players.
Teams can have off years for a variety of reasons... Credit him with believing in that team and look where they are now.
What should he do different...

I wouldn't rule out him making the Rangers as the 4C. The other candidates have been underwhelming.

I wouldn't want Howden on the team as the 4C, but he's the best player of the options and is performing the best.

Moving your best C to the wing doesnt make sense, not even close.

Maybe we can make a dual offer of Dorion and Bergevin and Yzerman works 50/50 for the Sens and Habs

Made the team as the 4C.

Ahead of Andersson!?

I’ve been a big fan of Howden for a long time but that’s quite impressive. Rangers fans will love his speed, faceoff ability, commitment to defence, and non-stop motor, but will probably be surprised by the amount of skill he can flash. I can see him as a good 2C in the future, but if he pans out as a 3C, Rags fans can be sure that they will have one of the best in the league.

I think they were considered for different roles. I don't think they wanted to use Andersson as a 4C or winger. It appears like it was top 9 center or bust for him, and he lost that to Chytil.

Howden played very well last night, and I think that got him on the team. Didn't have the best preseason, and I'm not sure he was actually any better during the preseason than Andersson, but there weren't very many options for 4C, so Howden benefited there.

Can you show me where Quinn said that?
They won’t scratch him and he’s not playing in the top 9, it’s pretty much guaranteed he’s the 4C
Our lines should look like

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Spooner/Namestnikov-Chytil-Zucc
Vesey-Hayes-Namestnikov/Spooner
Lettieri-Howden-Fast
McLeod

I mean I don't not think he could, he like Lettieri have had a good camp. I just think it's stupid to say he's guaranteed the 4C almost a week before puck drop when there's another capable C right there who has NHL experience. It's a very hfboards thing to just say OH NO HE'S IN. Go look at half the roster predictions for not just this team but every team in the league, most hfboards are totally out to lunch. Again, I'm not saying Howden won't, I'm just saying I don't think it's a given.

Lettieri isn’t exactly a C, he’s much better on the wing

Lines in practice were

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Vesey-Hayes-Zucc
Spoon-Chytil-Fast
Names-Howden-Lettieri

The clear bottom 3 forwards in camp are starting the season as a 4th line.

Howden is ready and I think they are comfortable giving him 12-13 minutes a night until he earns more.

Surprised to see Vlad on the fourth line. That bad of a camp?

He should be in the top 9 instead of Vesey, but I think you watched him play before he was put on a line with two elite players last season. He's not good. Very average NHL player, and that may be generous.

He had a good first match. Definitely did not look out of place.

But now they've put McLeod on his line, so that'll be a real task for Howden. I'd like to see him playing higher in the lineup. I completely disagree with putting a guy you project as a top 9 forward on the 4th line to start off their career.

Where else would he play in the lineup? The lines are set, the only guy he could probably overtake is Vesey but Vesey had an insane first game
Howden has been quietly really good though, he made a ton of good defensive plays in his first game
