I'm only half-way through the CAN-SUI game right now with my PVR. Howden has 3 assists and all three are absolutely beautiful. His vision is great.

Howden was for the most part flying under the radar until the U18. I had hoped the Leafs could snag him in the 2nd but his stock is rising.

I've been referring to him as our top-6 Howden for about a year now  nice to see him getting more attention in the late 1st after a very solid season.

Could see Dale drafting him, depending where we pick.

Pens 1st rounder it is then.

Impressed by him, part of a solid group of guys going in the 15-25ish range by the time the draft rolls along.

Yes(if Bean is gone). but when do the Leafs invest in goaltenders and d-men. If Toronto winds up drafting a winger with their 1st, taking another one later in the 1st is less appealing. I'd love for the Leafs to have Howden and his 200ft game but I sure want to see the D and goaltending addressed. I guess they could go winger-winger and then throw many of the remaining picks at d-men and goalies.
I no longer care for using a #4 pick on any of the defensemen.

He looks like he can play C, to be fair. Looks like a good playmaker

His goal-scoring ability is his weakest asset. Agree on the playmaking C. I project him as a two-way C who can distribute the puck, check top-6 C's and generally be hard to play against 5v5 and a top PK'er. Probably a 3C on deep teams but think he can be a 2C on some teams who wears down the opposition and creates chances off the rush and in the zone for his linemates with his passing and possession play.

Yeah. I don't see any reason he wouldn't project as a puck-distributing 2/3C "tweener" type with some matchup and PK ability. He's got the size, mobility, 2-way buy-in and smarts to play down the middle. I think that's where his best spot, and best value is.

Not really a flashy playmaker, but he has pretty solid vision and does a good job of putting the puck on teammates sticks in scoring areas.

Why is there no talk about him?

Most people don't care about a player after they've been drafted.

Either way, he's been solid so far this year and playing as advertised - Strong two-way play, plays in all situations and puts up points.

He's getting pretty sheltered ice-time in Syracuse because of how stacked that team is at forward. In the little ice-time he's played he's looked solid imo. Very pro-friendly style of play/personality.

I think it's been a pretty solid year for him overall. One of the few issues I had with him in his draft year was he'd default to others too much but this year he's much more confident in his shot and just going to the net.

How far from NHL ready?

How was his year? Another player getting no talk here.

Can't speak about his time in the AHL, but he was complete force in juniors. Was pretty much a man versus boys majority of the time and was used in Warriors most critical situations. I wasn't his biggest fan during his draft because I believe he was too safe as a player. I still suggest he will be a safe NHL player that you would want a bit more out of him, however, he has become more dominant in his playing style (especially when he has the puck). Should have around the same impact as Charlie Coyle in a player. Coyle has a better shot and IMO has more offensive potential, but Howden will be the better two-way player who's very responsible in decision making with and without the puck. I hope that helps.

NYR got a low high-end prospect in Howden I would say, almost a surefire NHLer imo, not sure exactly how much of his offense will translate at the NHL level, I don't see elite potential. I could see him becoming something similar to Travis Zajac, a good 2C in his prime with a strong 2-way game. Will be interesting to see how he does in his first year in the AHL.
