Up to 11 points in 18 games. So good

Frankly, if the trade was only McDonagh for Howden, the value for us as a rebuilding team wouldn't be that far off. And yes McDonagh is a better player than Howden and likely a better player he will ever be, but we're rebuilding. The mouthbreathers that think we got fleeced don't know anything.

An update to this thread.

Howden's on pace for 30 points over 82 games playing 14:47 per game. He's only going to play 66 games due to an injury that cost him close to 15 games. I think he also was scratched for a few games.

He started the season very well, but after about two months, his level of play completely dropped and the next two months he was awful. The game was too fast for him. I thought he was on the verge of a demotion to the AHL when he got injured. When he returned, he had another 3-4 weeks of bad play, but the last four games he's been very good. He has a four game point streak and has five points in those four games.

His defense has been pretty good and he's had some good stretches with making smart offensive plays, but over the course of the season his advanced stats have been really bad. For a rookie though, I think you discount the advanced stats.

I think he's been the best Rangers rookie this season. He's slightly outplayed Chytil and significantly outplayed Andersson. He should be at least a good 3C, more likely a middle six center. There's 2C upside, but he might not be dynamic enough offensively to be a 2C. He's projecting better than Andersson now, and I don't think its outside the range of possibilities that he could be better than Chytil.

He started with an absurd S% but had terrible underlying metrics at the start of the season. I traded him in my dynasty league while he was hot.

Huh? Discount advanced stats since he's a rookie? So should Kotkaniemi's killer advanced stats be discounted too? Brady Tkachuk too?

Honestly, I don't see too much promise in the Ranger's forward prospects outside of Kravtsov and Chytil (2nd line upside at most).

K'Andre Miller is exciting, though.

The majority of rookies have a lot of adjusting to do. Most of them will have done well to contribute in their role. Howden has done that. Advanced stats can also fluctuate a lot year to year. Howden has gotten a lot of hate because his advanced stats are bad, but I think there’s enough variance that could be at play that it’s not worth making much of compared to points, defense, frequency of high level plays.

Unfortunately right now Chytil and Kravtsov seem to be their only high upside forward prospects right now but Howden for sure has a chance at being a very good 3 center or decent line 2nd center when needed. For a low first rounder that's not bad. I think (hopefully) this 2019 draft is where they will take at least 2 forwards in the first round with some high upside.

Despite the production he passes the eye test in a lot of areas. Very skilled, quick to the puck and sees the play well. As projected, I think he can be a very productive middle six player but he needs to adjust to the NHL schedule and stay healthy.

Agree with this. I don’t know what happened to Howden between late November to around the TDL but before and after that awful stretch he’s been fantastic and his defensive game is second to Zib for forwards. Should make a good middle 6 shut down C very soon

I remember discussing how well he was doing at the beginning of the year with a fan of his from Juniors. He said the talent is there but he was always battling an injury, and then just like that he suffered an injury this year.
