Ask the Oilers , Sabres and Coyotes if "winning doesn't matter".

An important part of developing players is to teach them what it takes to win and not show them complacency when losing as in "oh it's okay, we are still learning, losing is fine".

If you implement that attitude you run a very high risk of infecting your locker room with the dreaded loser mentality.

It hasn't gone past me that the Rangers are rebuilding, I expect terrible results but I also expect accountability when it appears certain players are on the verge of mailing it in.

Development is not linear and a coach needs to be careful that he doesn't teach the wrong attitude, holding players accountable equally is a good thing. Holding only some players accountable, like AV did is flatout dumb. Holding NO ONE accountable is suicide for any coach.

I said within reason, so you are barking up the wrong tree here. Chytil didn’t do anything wrong. He’s been demoted to the fourth in these dartboard-made lines and is playing less than a fringe guy like Vesey and a grinder like Fast. I tend to think that’s dumb for a rebuilding team. I don’t care about game to game form. I think it’s dumb for a rebuilding team to make decisions based on that.

People are saying that Howden’s promotion has came at the expense of Chytil. It should come at the expense of others. Having it come at the expense of Chytil is counterproductive for a rebuilding team. So many fans claim they are okay with rebuilding and then advocate against rebuilding it comes time to rebuild.

Says the guy who responds with a clearly untrue remark.

It's easy for him to think that seeing that you left this whopper in the Kravtsov thread

I don't see the point in posting gifs when he didn't score. Our fans keep doing this. This is part of why other fans are starting to criticize Kravtsov. They see a gif of a game he didn't score, which is his main job as a forward, and they conclude he's not doing well. When he doesn't score, let the thread be.

When you say/write these things it's VERY hard to believe that you have been exposed to any sort of team environment.

Whose reason? Yours? Quinn is the coach and I've seen good things so far. Chytil has a boatload of potential and we all can see this. If he plays like he's just "present" then he is showing us underwhelming effort, meaning that he's due for a nice little wake up shake. How this is a "bad" thing, is still your secret.

How is being for accountability against rebuilding?
Again, part of developing a player is making him aware that he is not using his full potential. Chytil, while not fully mailing it in, is capable of much more and part of being a great player is showing not just the willingness but also the actual act of consistency. You don't address this, develop the dreaded streaky players. Hot one day score 10 goals in 4 games and then nothing in 20 games.

And that’s the end of this discussion. Didn’t even read the rest of what you have to say. It’s of no interest to me. I don’t come to this website for strangers to try to critique me personally instead of the opinion I put forth on the topic at hand.

For someone that is extremely opinionated, you sure do get sensitive when someone criticizes your opinions.

After watching each preseason game go by, I kept wanting him to play more. He's made progress after each game he's played.

At some point he will fade. He's not used to this kind of a schedule. Junior teams do play a good number of games, so it may not happen until later in the season.

I think he's gotten managements attention at this point. I'm hoping as each day passes, they look to move out Hayes to open up more for him and Andersson.

Your opinions indicate a lack of experience in that department, be prepared to be called out on it when you expose this in a public forum

Arguably the Rangers best forward this season. Playing pretty much all situations including very late in tight games (while Chytil gets stapled to bench). Just hope he's ok. Made another gorgeous play for assist on game winning goal

He was always the Warriors best player when he was on the ice. He's a bit of a bandaid though, was always in and out of the lineup in Junior, but man when he's healthy he's a beast.

This reads like a very knowledgeable post. Having watched Howden this season, he's always injured. Has only missed one game, but there's always a play or two that gets him injured. Its like he doesn't know how to play the game without causing significant harm to his body. I'm surprised I hadn't read more about this until this season.

But you are right. Very good hockey player. Scored the game winner tonight against Vancouver. He came into the season as the clear #3 in the perception of Ranger fans among the three young centers, but he's way outplayed both Chytil and Andersson. Not a real rags to riches story either. First round pick. Just not an exceptionally high pick or incredibly flashy, so he goes under the radar for being very good at every part of the game and always producing pretty well, but not great at anything or incredible stats. Very reliable presence in the Rangers lineup right now. He's been in the top 1/3 of players on the team this season, which is impressive for a rookie. I think he's very likely to be a quality all situations 2C.

Moose Jaw tends to produce underrated centers lately. Point and Howden cheif among them, Though some of the bullishness on Howden may have come from his brother failing.

I think Howden's biggest issue is he tries to play a powerforward game when he has the skill to be just a good skill player. He has good skating, a good shot arsenal, has good vision to make plays and he can cycle like a boss. But he just tries to be way to physical and finish those hard checks and his body just isn't good for that style of play.

Hmm...

I think I get what he's saying with that. He seems to hurt himself a lot. He cdid this in MJ too. Go into the corner hit someone. Get hurt and labour his way to the bench and then come back in a shift or two or next period. He's just very prone to injury it seems. Doesn't always keep him out of the lineup but he is constantly banged up.

He somehow went headfirst into the boards last night and I don't think anyone even touched him. So you may be on to something with him getting himself hurt all the time. Hopefully he stays healthy, he's been great, plays a very mature game and is producing. Allows the team to be patient with Andersson and Chytil.

Very prone to injury and getting hurt a lot are two different things.

Guys who block shots all day are hurt a lot. Guys who miss alot of games are prone to injury

His isn't from blocking shots though. His is from his style of play. He missed a lot of time while in Junior for various reason because of his bang and crash style of play.

Missing time in Junior is a valid concern I agree. Wincing on his way back to the bench, doesn't sound as worrying.

If you saw how often it happened in Junior you'd know. He missed shifts and entire periods regularly. Kid is a great player but he has a hard time not getting beat up and it's usually because of his own hits.
