Nikishin is not available in any Buchnevich deal.

He was a no go in a Meier deal and Meier had control as a RFA. No chance he would be available for Buch who has no ability to re-sign long term immediately

What about Buch 25% retained for Nick + rights to Cade Webber (I think he said he wouldn’t sign with you) with conditional 1sts in 28 and 29 if Nick refuses to come over?
The signing conditions on the first’s likely violate the same cba clause that doesn’t allow re-signing conditions when trading picks

That’s great that you’re a huge fan of Morrow, but he’s not a game changer. I’d rather hold onto Buch than sell him for anything less than what would be a win. Hence, Nikishin, Wallinder, Sandin - Pellika. Otherwise, we keep him, try and get in, give Binner a go in the playoffs
If we can get an offer for Morrow+1st we would be foolish to hold out for Nikishin. Morrow is the best defenseman that has been speculated and would be the ideal partner for Lindstein.

The difference between Nikishin and Morrow is not nearly as large as you make it out to be, and if we hold onto Buchnevich that Morrow likely falls to a much lower level of Prospect. Both Morrow and Nikishin are top 4 floor top pairing potential defenseman. I would put Morrow higher than the Wallinder teir this fanbase has been so obsessed with.

not a fan of either of these teams but does something around Brady and extended Buch + have any legs this summer if he forces his way out of Canada?

Buch has a 12 team no trade. High chance Ottawa is on there

2024 1st, Warren Foegele, Philip Broberg and Xavier Bourgault for Buch.

Hard to value Broberg too highly. In terms of usefulness we’d be better off waiting until next deadline to hope for something else.

Not commenting on the proposed deal, but holding Buchnevich until next deadline substantially tanks his value in a trade.

Sort of depends. It substantially tanks his value if the offers at this deadline are significantly higher than a typical rental package for a top forward. At a bare minimum next season we'd likely get a 1st, a useful prospect, and maybe another pick, something around the Lindholm deal. For us to move him this deadline, it would be with the assumption that a team is paying a premium to get him for 2 playoffs. If we are just offered a 1st and stuff, then might as well hold.

Tanks his value...how so. If he was rental he would still get 1st plus very good prospect. He will be traded for furst and two prospects this year.

As long as his play doesn't regress next season, he'll be a top rental in 2025. That's worth a 1st and a b-prospect. He's worth more now, but not substantially.

The arguments against keeping him if they don't want to sign him are (1) he uses up ice time that otherwise would go to St. Louis' younger players (2) he uses up cap space that could otherwise be leveraged for assets in different deals and (3) the risk of injury.

Those aren't necessarily compelling arguments. Rental+1 trades were trendy 4-6 years ago. Teams have been punting on comparable decisions in the years since.

Someone should pay the premium. As I already mentioned I'd have no problem paying 2 1sts and a prospect for him right now.

Fox was moved, Sergechev was moved, Drysdale was just moved.
Fox was moved cause they knew he wouldnt sign in canada, and Canes thought they could persuade him to here, and moved him when it was clear he wouldnt.

Nikishin has plenty of reasons to come over to the Canes after his contract is up, he will have a few countrymen on the roster, and many more prospects in the waiting.

I dont want move Morrow, be he would be the best prospect available from us, and I see Morrow replacing Burns on the top pairing.

Because teams are willing to trade more if they get him for 2 playoff runs.
I get it but it doesnt tank it. Hust reduces it

Then it appears canes dont have anything to offer blues.

2024 1st Round Pick, 2026 1st Round Pick, 2026 2nd Round Pick and Philip Broberg.

Per caleb kerney of hockey news.

Though the first would have to be 2025.

I wouldnt mind halloway 1st 2024 broberg and 2nd 2025.

With retention.

This isnt what i would want but it answers the check marks.
1) big lhd who skates.
2) nhl ready forward
3) 1st 2024.
Also blues could add scandella for depth dman

2 seasons rental pieces stopped being a thing due to flat cap. With cap set to rise he should be worth fair bit more this year. If nobody pays it we hold for another year (we have cap space and plenty of roster spots). But I think equivalent of 2 1sts or so gets it done now.
