Don't know, but they lost so many of their players to the Islanders for the last bit it wouldn't surprise me.

Yep, no Holmstrom, Fasching, Raty, Wotherspoon, and - for a little while - Schneider has surely hurt. As expected.

But there are some decent fill-in options in Worcester who are also Islander prospects aside from the established AHL players and guys like Iskhakov, Durandeau, and Dufour.

Would have thought that'd be enough to pull off a few wins in between.

Update: I'm actually counting 12 straight losses. I overlooked one before I posted above.

Odds are I will be going to the Saturday, January 21st game against the SWB Penguins, if anyone wants to grab a quick beer between periods. I am buying the first round - as long as you are over 21 years old! 😉

Did I see right that BPort has lost 11(!) in a row???
No, there was a win stuck in there. They've lost 11 of their last 12.

I haven't seen them play since just after Thanksgiving. I'm going to assume the callups to the big club have killed their mojo.

Hutton and LaDue were out for a while (not sure if they still are), and Wotherspoon has now been with the big club for a couple weeks.

Schneider was also with the Islanders for a bit and Holmstrom/Fasching/Raty are all up + Terry was out for a bit too.

Their depth is shot, and it's not like Skarek is capable of carrying the team (which is disappointing in it's own right).

You'd think a guy like Koivula would be able to step up and be a 1C there after some initial hype and being a seasoned AHL veteran by now.

I think the window is closing on Skarek and Koivula.

As someone who watches all their games the defense is issue, lack of depth has a few ECHL D playing and Skarek has struggled mightily. The forward callups have hurt also, I’d hope isles send Salo down to play cause he would help them quite a bit as I’m assuming Wotherspoon is staying as the 7 if and when Pelech comes back.

Yeah at this point I see Wotherspoon as the 7D and Salo being sent to Bridgeport when Pelech returns.

Varlamov in the $2M range would be an ideal backup. I hope Varly loves it here enough to take something like that.
Sometimes, you see Lou's longer-term thinking at play here. He's covered for Sorokin's early years to see if he played up to his potential. He might have even discussed with Varlamov before the signing something along the line of "I'll pay you above market for now, give you long-term security, so if you want to stay here and transition into the backup at a lower salary, you'll be taken care of".

Same thing with Johnston. "I'll give you some security for being the good trooper, you'll be the swing roster spot but will be paid for it fairly".

I'm sure this is another reason you never hear players disparage playing for a Lou Lamoriello run organization.

So we think that treating players fairly and rewarding them for loyalty offsets them having to shave every couple days? Crazy, give me the chance to grow a nice soul patch any day over that other BS. ;)

I'd rather choose my own vanity number to wear on my jersey. It helps my creativity on the ice.

I’d say it’s likely that with his lackluster play and the more solid performances of Wotherspoon and Aho, Salo has played himself out of the organization.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he is part of a deal at the trade deadline but frankly he’s not a particularly valuable chip.

I’m all good with that but let’s hope Lou doesn’t counter an opposing team’s higher AAV offer with a longer Cizikas-like deal.

If he does enough of those (Mayfield too?)we’ll be the East’s version of Minnesota’s dead cap dilemma.

As Lou gets older I would love for him to still be a President of Operations somehow and head the GM search to be honest. I am unsure how far away this is as Lou seems great for his age but a plan should be in place.

Bolduc is an important piece in the depth chart. Aho and Salo seem to be meh. The other LHD are at least a couple of years away. If they don't think Bolduc is ready soon, they may need to make some kind of move at LHD (even if it's a UFA this summer).

But will Bolduc survive the trade deadline?

He's got to be one of the most interesting prospects the Isles have in the eyes of potential trade partners.

With the acquisition of Romanov, there's reason to think Bolduc is expendable.

The question them becomes do other organizations think highly enough of Bolduc?

About goalies, in Sweden a former Brigdeport goalie has good stats.

I'm happy for Linus, if I remember correctly, he had a bad knee injury while in North America and returned home to rehab and play in his home country.

When he was an NYI prospect he was fairly open about his Asperger's diagnoses at the time as well; I'm not sure how much that would come into play when deciding to leave the comforts of Sweden vs. coming to the NHL on a one way - prove it deal.

Best case scenario, he looks for an NHL deal (similar to how Koskinen transitioned back the NHL, even though we all know how that went). He's not Islanders' property anymore and I don't think he was in the organization during the Lamoriello era so I don't see a return to NYI in a backup role should Varlamov leave the organization after this season.

Lamoriello would likely prefer a more proven commodity to fill Varlamov's role should he need to.
