There is some logistics that could make it work. Ok so Memorial Cup ends on June 13th with the NHL draft on July 7. It's not ideal but it's doable. The world Juniors are 11 days. If the NHL were to push the draft back a week it would be better.

We could have the tournament start June 20th and end on July 1st. If the draft were on the 14th and 15th of July we could have it end between July 1st and 4th and have a combine on the week of July 8-10.

What if say Jiricek or Nemec don't sign their ELC? they could just say I'll sign after the torunment. Do teams have control?
I don't even know if it'd be a 100% NHL decision.. some guys just say no and want to focus on their careers. Eg. I'd be really surprised if Power went again after going to Senior Worlds (maybe twice) and Olympics next week.. at that point, it's a kids tournament. I think a few Germans chose to stay last time for a similar reason. The Czech goalie, Malik, opted out because he had a good spot in the Finnish LIIGA and felt if he left for 5 weeks that he might lose his spot.

Having said that.. .I do think if I draft a top 5 guy and I'm an NHL gm.. I'm probably saying don't go. We need you in camp and dryland training instead. I could be wrong but I expect several declines. Raymond is another.

In August? Anything for $ I suppose.

I'll watch because it's hockey, but I can invision a lot of guys declining, or NHL teams requesting their players not participate.

I'm glad that the tournament will be played in August. But I find it very stupid if Canada, Finland and Sweden do not have the points they played on the ice left. Punishing those successful teams for beating their opponents is absolute nonsense. Sorry, but if the Slovaks have such a good team as they claim, they can still beat Russia and Switzerland, the Germans will also be robbed of the victory against the Czechs. That is absurd.

Good point. From the other perspective: the teams can potentially have completely different rosters. To reward a team with points won by some other players can seem unfair too. You say a participating country has won the points, others say a participating team has won the points. It's a matter of the perspective, I can see reasonable logic in both of them.

To my understanding the games that were played and their results will still stand. Only the games that were forfeited or cancelled due to covid will be played. So for example Finland beat Germany and Austria and those results will still count but the Finland-Czechia game that was forfeited will be played.

If the results remain valid after 60 minutes, this is the only fair option. Switzerland must come to the ice and play for points against the USA, Finland must also go against the Czechs and defeat them. So leaving the results in place, just repeating the consumed matches, is the only right choice for me. Because Canada, Finland and Sweden did nothing against the rules, they only defeated their opponents regularly.

If what you're saying is true, then I'm very happy. Jesper Wallstedt played a famous match against Slovakia and his performance should be erased from history? Why? The same case is Bedard, so his four goals against Austria should not be erased.

Players that were initially forbidden from playing due to Covid protocols, should be allowed to play now. Meaning Aatu Räty should be with Team Finland.

From my understanding, results will stand except for canceled games due to Covid. And it should be that way. And we never claimed to have an amazing team, just better than we have had in previous years.

Heard the different thing. It should a be new tournament, with all games played again.

You can keep the real game results or start from scratch - while finding a way to keep the players stats from Christmas on the books. I don't care either way. Just play the tournament.

I agree. Same rosters, except for injuries. If a player is injured, they can be replaced. If a player had to miss the tournament due to COVID or injuries before, they can be added. None of this stuff where a player is a lot higher thought of six months later and now gets a spot.

What happens if certain players just don't want to go outside of an injury is that national team on the hook?

I agree. As I said before...

Having to refund millions in ticket / TSN money is the BIGEST incentive to ensure the WJR's gets played.
