I am sure some posters will lecture me on "priorities" but...
I will miss having Russia at the World Juniors.
I will miss having Russia at the World Juniors.
USA is better than Czechia and Germany is better than Latvia. Slovakia would be nr 2 in group a after usa and is nr 3 in group b. its not big difference.WTF IIHF????![]()

Germany gets the Mickey Mouse route to an easier QF matchup. And now IIHF screws Slovak hockey again after not promoting us for U18, they rearrange the groups and now we are in the group of death lol. Should’ve just subbed Latvia for Russia
The groups:
A - Germany, USA, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria
B - Czechia, Canada, Latvia, Finland, Slovakia
Can someone explain how putting the three weakest teams in the tournament in one group is balancing the event?
Sweden is obviously still better than Slovakia. But I think each team in group b is better than Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Ansons is probably better than any player on those three teams and they actually have some solid depth. Brants, Vitolins, Gavars. Bruveris had a great D1A tournament, could carry over. Without Reichel, Peterka and Stutzle, I think Latvia may have just as good if not better overall team.USA is better than Czechia and Germany is better than Latvia. For now, it's a Big 4 - they are seperated.WTF IIHF????![]()

I mean Austria is undoubtedly the weakest, Swiss don’t have the same talent level in depth as Latvia. And Germany without their big 3 is a toss up with Latvia. I find it unlikely those guys will be there, but who knows. Go look at Latvia’s 2002 and 2003 borns, they have good players in NA.For now, it's a Big 4 - they are seperated.
Are the weakest 3 Austria, Swiss and Germany?
If the German's get their big 3 players they will be a medal contender (just like Slovaks if they get their stars which I hope they do). Swiss are always competitive.
They should just scrap this tournament for August. Makes no sense to have a tournament in August, and another one 4 months later. If Russia is not participating as well, there might be a question mark from many people around the world, if the tournament winner is truly the best without facing the great Russian team.
Not that is not fair to assume. The whole set up has been a disaster so far, 2 terribly imbalanced groups. I agree with the poster above, this tournament should just be scrappedIs it fair to say that this is going to be the most stacked WJHC of all time with NHL teams likely releasing more players and all Jr. players healthy and rearing to go? (Russias absence notwithstanding).
You know .. it is easy mats, if you think this tourney is scrap, then just ignore it. I m happy that in august i will see some good hockey, i m looking forward to this. They should just scrap this tournament for August. Thats not a terribly compelling argument when I'm simply talking about the talent that may attend this tournament, not the groups or timing or anything else.
I will ask again- with overagers attending and hopefully more players released by their NHL teams as well as fewer players hampered by injuries leading into the tournament, is this not going to be one of the best fields of talent (relative to its cohort) to ever attend the WJHC?
I enjoy beating them but they shouldn't be there.I am sure some posters will lecture me on "priorities" but...

It depends how many players don't go. There are several tournaments with only one or two players missing due to the NHL. It has potential to be one of the best ever in terms of fewest players missing.
Well. should Slovakia advance to QF they will face perhaps an easier team. I don't see any disadvantage, not at all. As no team gets relegated there will be no pressure on players.WTF IIHF????![]()

Yeah, thats what I mean. I could be wrong but it strikes me as the perfect opportunity for any u20+ player to get some high quality reps in at a time when typically they would only have private camps or personal training available. Added to that you have the overagers who will push the talent level up and then you have the odd player that wont be blocked by their NHL team, perhaps even encouraged to attend.
Added all up and let's hope it equates to a tournament that maximizes the talent available within the cohort.
Fair enough.I enjoy beating them but they shouldn't be there.
