Mediocre as hell with us. Maybe he’ll do more if ownership meddles less, but Calgary couldn’t even achieve the regular season success that Toronto had and it was left with a bleak future and bad cap situation. Constantly hemorrhaged assets for a team that made the playoffs every second yr and as a final goodbye traded monahan to sign Kadri for a 7x7. Never learned his lesson in FA.

Wish you guys the best. Very divisive among flames fans, but I think this is a downgrade. Keep him away from the phone on July 1st and things might be fine. After all, a change of scenery can sometimes do wonders.
Don't tell some leafs fans here that, they'll bring up his draft from 8 years ago to show how much better than dubas he is, and every problem Calgary had/have is sutters fault.

As someone who lives in Calgary, and watches a lot of Flames games, and follows the team through osmosis of living here. I wouldn't say I am thrilled but it is what it is.

We will see if he loses more star players like he did in Calgary. Whether or not it was completely his fault, it happened on his watch. Much like people will blame the last GM and current President here for past failures, Tre has to own his failures in Calgary.

Downgrade from Dubas? Did Calgary win playoff rounds under Treliving? Toronto only won Lord Stanley's Hypothetical Cup under Dubas.

How do we contend with 5.5M of dead cap + whatever the big piece marner brings costs?

Its close to impossible

We would be at like 13.5-14M on marner+replacment player and Matthews is up 1.5M + Nylander up another 2-2.5M

The team wont improve much this way

The only way it works is if the other team retains on a similar sized contract with more term.

Just using Karlsson as a placeholder but Karlsson at 50% for Marner at 50% as a baseline is even money for 2 years and then 2 years of a cheap Karlsson. Sam Jose (or whoever is rebuilding and has an expensive but still good player to move) does it so they can flip Marner at ~3mil for much more than a contender could afford to pay for Karlsson.

He couldn’t build a winning team around gaudreau and tkachuk. He had 6 seasons with both of them and they won one playoff series and missed the playoffs twice. I can understand Dubas had his faults, but Toronto was a consistent contender under him that just couldn’t get over the playoff hump… Calgary struggled to even make the show.

I guess yea that could work

Though tbh I expect karlsson to drop off hard next year

New GM has about a month to make franchise altering decision. Hopefully hes up to par

Dubas had to build a case to make me dislike him. Really pathetic to cry about the next hire until we see them in action.
Probably the dumbest comment I've read on here in awhile. You absolutely can and should look at a gm/coach/player/whoever past experience and results when deciding how you feel about them joining the organization. Dubas had no prior NHL experience, was a little different.

Well change is here. No sense debating on anything until he's made a few moves and we see the direction he wishes to take this team.

Hopefully it's up. I'll take a worse regular season point total, if it includes some serious playoff style hockey and success in the playoffs.

I don't think you fire Dubas, and get a new GM just to keep the status quo. One of the big 4 is gone this summer 100%.

I'd have paid to be in the room when Shanahan asked him if about his thoughts on Keefe remaining as coach.

Less interesting to me would be his opinion regarding Auston/Mitch/Willie as I'm guessing he told his new boss that he intends to re-sign all three.
