Coming into a really tough spot but have to hope he picks the right coach and makes a few key moves to get us over the top.

Posted this in another thread but this is what he said about how he views the game.

"I think the style of play, people talk about big and whatever word you want to use, I think you need to have heavy teams now," he said. "I think you have to play a heavy game. That's not just a personal preference. Turn on the TV tonight and watch the games."

"There are steps along the way. We've got to take a lot of steps but in order to be there at the end, to build a championship, you do have to have a blueprint and you look at the games that are being played now. It's hard hockey. It's heavy hockey. It's a man's game. It's a big boy's game out there right now. In order to have success, I fully believe you have to have a team that can play in those games."

Back to "truculence"? :D

If we're making a playoff push should we trade away Nylander or Marner at the deadline? Then offer them more than the team that signed them?

Good point. But I think you have an idea of where you are with the player right? The Flames werent winning the cup that year...i mean crazier things have happened. But now the Flames are straddled with three aging veterans with long tern contracts as result of that.

Imagine the Leafs didnt sign Matthews to an extension this year and he walks on the premise that hey we need him for the playoffs?

Not as underwhelming as when they named Dubas. Wealthiest franchise, mediocre management what else is new.

Prove me wrong pick for GM.

Since people are gonna take this as him just wanting goons I'd like to remind everyone that this guy offered Gaudreau 10 million over 8 years or whatever.
He exposed Giordano while at the Flames instead of protecting him at the expansion draft. To me that is a signal that he thinks "organization and team" first instead of stupidity "name" first.

IMO he got blindsided by Gaudreau's desire to move to the US to be close to his wife and family; and Tkachuk too I guess.

I don't have a good read on Huberdeau's extension; technically Treliving could have dealt both Huberdeau and Weegar for a retool or rebuild. I guess flames ownership had other ideas :dunno:

hey at least he got something for Tkachuk instead of losing him for nothing like Gaudreau

Based on the timing I’m assuming they were holding out for Nill or Armstrong and got turned down by them or their teams.

Laughable that everyone is freaking out. My god Dubasites are the absolute worst. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Tre will do a good job here. I believe he’ll inject a new and way better philosophy than that absolute donkey Dubis ever could. Dubis was an absolute amateur in every single way and it showed through the consistent insane belief that cups are won with a heavy concentration of speed, soft skill finesse players, when really all of us can see that a blend of everything is the most ideal to winning the cup. Prepare for our team to get a lot meaner on the ice. And that is a good thing. The Dubasites’ tears taste so good. Welcome to Toronto, Tre!

I don't want to sound too excited about the Treliving thing, because he's not that exciting.

But people also have to remember where the Flames started in 2013 and 2014ish when he took over. That was the end of the Iginla years and the Flames look liked they needed a scorched earth rebuild the way Toronto did at the end of the Nonis years.

Yet little by little they built a very competitive team. A little bit through the draft with top 5 picks. Some old school big trades here and there. Spent some money in free agency to get bigger and more solid on the backend. He's not that exciting. He's not perfect. I'm not that excited. But he has been a very capable, competent, steady hand and perhaps that's what we need right now. The big pieces are in place. It's still about surrounding them with a proper team.

Also, at least he got Tkachuk and Gaudreau played at 7MX3 and 6MX6 instead of 11MX5/6 after ELC.

I still recall a time when commentators were saying how great the contractual situation of Calgary was (Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monahan) in comparison to the Oilers.

I will be satisfied as long as he can sign Matthews to a reasonable-enough deal, and won't waste 5 mill on some middle-of-the-road UFA (most risky scenario).
