Downgrade from Dubas? Did Calgary win playoff rounds under Treliving? Toronto only won Lord Stanley's Hypothetical Cup under Dubas.
They won a playoff series in 2015 (brad’s first season) and 2022 (right before losing Gaudreau and tkachuk). I wouldn’t give him much credit for 2015 tbh (unless Derek Engelland and mason raymond and Jonas hiller are considered pivotal pieces).

Under brad tre the flames missed the playoffs 4 times and made it 5 times. Yippee

How many years did they miss when expecting to make it?

2018 and 2021, 2023 I think were the years they were contending but missed

Poor goaltending killed them in 2021 and 2023 i believe

Well, could do worse I guess, but not optimistic based on recent moves/signings.

Well hey at least the chain of command being too long isn’t an issue anymore.

Dubas -> Shanny -> Board -> Shanny -> Dubas

Can now be Tre Jim and Larry having a beer over caviar.

I like it. Just a good all around GM, only 50 years old, and now he’s working with an organization with all the resources and staff he could ever ask for.

Opinion on the Tkachuk trade, the signings after, and then the Kadri signing?

I think coaching played a big role in 2023 too Tbf. Stubborn, unwilling to give youth a shot. Good riddance to sutter.

I could’ve forgiven him for the huberdeau contract, but trading a first to sign Kadri to a 7x7 was truly desperate. I’d hope for the sake of god Shanny reigns in some of his impulses because he could either really salvage this situation or ruin things in short order.

As I said earlier, he couldn’t build a consistent winning team around a 7m dollar Gaudreau and elc/7m dollar tkachuk. I’d be curious how he does once marner and matthews and nylander get new deals. Even if he traded them, his ability to supplement the team via FA was a major Achilles heal.

People wanted a little more size and truculence, we'll probably get more of that looking through his signing and trade history for better or worse.

I will say his recent signings and moves were a lot better than his first few years.

The bigger question mark will be his ability of bringing in a good coach and stable goaltending. Markstrom seemed to be good before imploding a bit this past year.

There's been a forest fire's amount of smoke around his name the past week, should come as no surprise if true.

The easiest name for Shanny to bring on board, willing to work under him, has experience in the job, needs work, ect.

He's not the worst available option, nor is he the best. I'm pessimistic about it, but I absolutely hope I'm proven wrong.

Markstrom, Huberdeau, Kadri, and Weeger, ya he seems great.

Darryl Sutter for better or worse is a stubborn SOB.

You may want to check back in with Huberdeau with one more coach who prioritizes a higher-pace of play before making absolute decrees on the trade.
