I think in a way this is a brilliant move. Bring in a guy who got burned by some kids not wanting to sign and forcing his hand. One would have to assume he is going to be super sensitive to the matthews, marner, nylander situation since he just did this dance. Im happy he gets a do over so to speak and learn from his mistakes. I think he will be a lot more assertive and proactive with the fellas. Dubas would have waited and ultimately would have got burned by them leaving or forced to sign even worse contracts. With BT i think we have a chance that they sign better contracts or they get traded before they get the opportunity to walk for nothing.

At the end of the day, no one can make the kids sign for a fair price so our leverage is to offer market value or trade them. I suspect matthews and nylander would not care but marner would probably be upset to end up on a new team.
I agree with this. Still didn’t want him as the GM but good point.

Darryl Sutter for better or worse is a stubborn SOB.

You may want to check back in with Huberdeau with one more coach who prioritizes a higher-pace of play before making absolute decrees on the trade.

His contract is trash regardless.

They won a playoff series in 2015 (brad’s first season) and 2022 (right before losing Gaudreau and tkachuk). I wouldn’t give him much credit for 2015 tbh (unless Derek Engelland and mason raymond and Jonas hiller are considered pivotal pieces).

Under brad tre the flames missed the playoffs 4 times and made it 5 times. Yippee
Did Trevling inherit a team with a core of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly? 3 top 5 picks with 1 being 1st overall and Nylander being a top 10 pick? He went to a team with Gaudreau and Monahan pretty much and no goaltending. He actually had to build that team to what it became and didn't get lottery picks to do it with. His lowest pick was 4th overall and that was the draft he was hired 2 months prior to.

What’s the worst than can happen?
Treliving overpays the core, they get 100 points, make the playoffs and lose in the first round. It will be like Dubas never left. That’s the bar at the moment. Anything more is gravy.

Treliving loses one fo the core to free agency, trades on the young players for two overrated players, signs them to insane contracts and then they miss the playoffs. That could also happen.

No, he didn’t. But he inherited some good pieces and had a slim dunk pick with Matthew tkachuk. Giordano and Brodie were both norris caliber dmen that were the backbone of our defence until 2020.

Keep in mind I wasn’t a fan of his during his tenure. There are other flames fans who look at him more positively, but I personally don’t understand the hype he gets.

And you're basing that entirely on the past year with Sutter.

"notbias" should look at a larger sample than just the most recent year, one would think.

Are we finally agreeing that Marner is worth his contract? He put up better stats and is much better defensively... you must be saying that.

Or is it Huberdeaus's stellar playoff stats that make him worth it?

Or basing it on paying a guy 10.5 with an NMC until he’s 38. Even if he puts up 100 a few more times away from Sutter you’re still in trouble soon.

I'm seeing one player who signed to max term as a UFA and you're comparing to an RFA exiting a 3 year ELC contract.

"notbias" continues a torrid record of not only showing extreme bias but also no knowledge of basic economic principles that govern contract negotiations.

As long as we keep Pridham in a key role, I’m fine with it. After all, Shanny has his hand in everything right, so the GM is just a pawn anyways ;)

Seriously, he isn’t my first choice, particularly the fact he signs people for wwwaaaayyyy too long ( caveat being Calgary is no destination, you need to sweeten the pot to entice). That said, his players respect him and he has a good reputation around the league, a no bullshit guy. I’d say he’s about the same class GM as Dubas, so lets move forward and hope this guy makes the right moves. And I’ll look forward to the lame Dubists who saw no wrong, now seeing no right with everything we do.

Now show Keefe the door….

UFA til 38 with a NMC

So one is signed through their prime, the other is not.

Or are you now making a case that the Tavares signing is good?

f***ing Shanny - just wow.

I hope we run the whole thing back with Keefe now. First round exit 100%. Then watch Matthews walk away for 0.

Clown show organization.
I wish I wasn’t a fan.
