If they won't commit, send them packing. Someone needs to stop coddling these prima donnas.

Start the rebuild.

You are trading them as rentals if they won't re-sign before July 1st.

That means futures.

Looks like the Lou-Dubas cone of silence will be coming to an end. The legacy media guys certainly seem eager to be chummy with Treliving

If Steve Simmons says I should be excited about something, I am not sure I should be excited...

Wow every single team passed on Kyrou in the draft at least once, some of them twice what idiots !
Yeah, its really funny player complaining because you traded this pick who became this player and become a great player...

If team who trading their own player dont have any chance to get something good with pick, they would never trade for pick...

When you trading for pick youre taking chance to get nothing or hit something with your pick, when youre trading pick youew taking risk to give something who can become a great player and gave something who will bring absotly nothing...

Pick youre trading cant always only be trash player

2016 draft was incredibly good and a lot of the guys drafted before 35 have been better so kind of a weird response to call them all idiots. But I'll allow it for Mark Hunter selecting Korshkov or for anyone that traded out of that draft for a marginal return.

Keefe is here still

Shanahan is the GM

Treveil8ng is the puppet

Shanahan will be remembered worse here than Burke and Dubas combined

Absolute clown
Shanahan was George Parros before there was George Parros. Plus, he played hockey in the NHL. You can't question the resume.

So by extension, move Treliving as far up as possible just because and then remove Shanahan (but not those who endorsed his signing) who just hired the guy you think should have like power…ok. Thanks.
hence the "falling on his sword," perhaps Shanahan knows he's been part of the problem and does the honorable thing? All hypothetical, but I'd be happy none the less if Shanahan was gone gone gone...........

What if the players dont want to give you a commitment before July 1st? What do you do with that situation and NMCs?
July 1st doesn’t really matter. You can only trade them if they’re willing to sign and trade or agree to sign with the new team and that can’t happen until after July 1st.

I suppose they could give them away

He's always got a job as long as Dubas is breathing.
Cant say I am a big Keefe fan but I wonder if under a different direction and someone other than Dubas he can be more effective. Im sure he has learned a lot as well these last few years.

That's failed over and over again. The team isn't built for the playoffs - how anyonce can still be on board with running it back, and go to the bargain bin for the rest...... I have no idea. Theis mix of players do not have what it takes.
The problem is the depth has been softer than the core...Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, Kampf, Engvall, Mete, Holl, Brodie, Malgin, Mikheyev, Galchenyuk, Vesey, Blackwell, Kase. It's just been a revolving door of wannabe top 6'ers on our bottom 2 lines. That's where we need the meat and potatoes.

Folks should pay attention to the language he uses in the opening press conference.

If he's using phrases/terms like "need time to assess things" it almost certainly will imply there's no big changes happening in the offseason - including maybe the coaching staff here too. MLSE may not want to pay Keefe not to coach for them so they ride out his current contract.

If he uses much bolder language about "making moves/shakeups to the organization" we may see some more impactful things occur.

Personally I suspect he's going to take the more cautious approach that will emphasize continuity from last season - which seems to be what Shanny was looking for.

We'll see one way or the other soon
I mean wouldnt any gm on their first day say they need time to assess things, makes sense no? I dont see him giving up too much information, at least not as much detail as we all want.

I look forward to this actually. There's a middle ground between guys like Burke who talk about everything (remember when he used to whip the media into a frenzy about his self imposed holiday trade freeze?) and someone like Lou/Dubas who never spoke or allowed their staff too.

100% agree. July 1st is much ado about nothing.

Glad we didn't hire Bergevin or Chiarelli, but not sure Treliving represents an upgrade on what we had before. Willing to be open minded about it.

To my mind, everything comes down to what happens with Matthews, but I doubt we get an answer to that particular question for some time.

I'm not a fan and I think it will be a disaster.

But every GM gets a chance to prove himself and Treliving deserves the same.

If you were to evaluate the 3 home grown guys contracts, how would you classify them?

Matthews - AAV is fine but it needed an 8 year term, at 5 years, it's a bad contract

Marner - Bad contract, I think they made him the highest paid winger in the league as an RFA until Panarin signed as a UFA.

Nylander - It got flack at the time and he didn't help things out with the terrible start but it probably looks to be the best value of all 3.

Yea that's safe.
Matthews is a unicorn so hard to play hardball with him, that's what I would say.

Marner contract was brutal, I was expecting 7 years at 9 million, 9.5 tops.

Nylander was the best value for sure. TBH I don't even remember what I thought at the time about the dollars/term, I just thought the promise to never trade him as long as Dubas was the GM was a completely insane rookie move.

Its more of whats your number and term. Here is our best offers. We need a commitment before NMC or we are trading.

If they want to hold all the cards even after being treated phenomenally they can get the hell out. Nobody else in the league got pampered and greased like them.
