Why? The team was already a shitshow under Dumbass lmao.

If you are a bandwagon fan sure. Trust me, the last 5 years under Dubas have been the best hockey we've had in Toronto in decades, since arguably the 90's. Early 2000's team had slightly more playoff success one year but that is it.

It can and has been a lot worse. Can't wait to go back to being a team who wishes they could sniff the playoffs.

Friedman said that deal wasn't blocked and both Shanahan and Dubas were turned off by Chicago wanting Knies
Appreciate the clarification; Any instances you're aware of with same credibility in which Shanahan blocked good deals Dubas brought to his table?

With the Leafs, two issues stand out above all: The status of No. 1 centre Auston Matthews, who can be signed to a contract extension on July 1, the same day that a no-move clause kicks in; and the status of coach Sheldon Keefe, who has one year remaining on his contract.

It’s true that Shanahan told the Core Four that it was his intent to see that they all return next season, if each wanted to do so.

Will Treliving feel the same way? What if, during the interview process, he presented a scenario to Shanahan that included a viable way forward without one of Matthews, Mitch Marner or William Nylander? Or will Treliving fall in line with Shanahan’s line of thinking on the Leafs’ nucleus and strive to keep it intact?

The future of captain John Tavares doesn’t require speculation. He has two years remaining on his contract and Tavares has indicated he won’t budge off his no-move clause.

A no-move clause for Marner goes into effect on July 1, while Nylander can submit a 10-team no-trade list that day.

As for the Marner trade rumours? A source said simply the chatter adds up to “nonsense,” noting that that without a GM, there’s no one on the Leafs side who could properly have those discussions with other teams.

As for Keefe, Treliving has time on his side. Treliving could go his own way and bring in a new head coach. He also could decide he wants to get to know Keefe and let the coach work in the final year of his contract before making a decision.

In discussing Treliving with several agents, he was described in varying ways.

One said Treliving is “a ball-buster” and is direct; another said he has found Treliving “very methodical” in his dealings with him.

Treliving seemingly was the choice of Shanahan from Day 1, and though 12 days have passed since Kyle Dubas was fired, it doesn’t sound like Shanahan went too far down the road with other potential candidates.

“Did he make some calls?” a source said. “I would think so, but there was not an exhaustive search.”

Shanahan might have made out well had he promoted assistant general manager and salary cap guru Brandon Pridham, but the latter is said to be satisfied in his current role with the team.

We've now had multiple Toronto media types confirmed what Chris Johnston said about Shanny calling the core four.

Looks like some folks owe him an apology for insinuating he was making it all up. Guess it wasnt 'hearsay' afterall

And Treliving has gotten how far?
Treliving didn’t have Matthews Marner Nylander and Rielly to start. Any GM that has that as a starting point is obviously going to be ahead of the curve over others. Treliving to me is an average GM but to try and keep propping up Dubas while ignoring the massive head start he had with players, prospects and cap space any GM would make the playoffs year after year.

Hard to get excited about Treliving in an extremely positive or negative way IMO.

His work in Calgary starting in 2014 was taking the ruins of a post Iginla Flames team poised for a massive rebuild and built it back up bit by bit through every avenue possible. It started as a wasteland and ended up as an up and down competitive team, probably without championship upside.

The starting line in Toronto is way different.

Mate that’s only because the Leafs are one of the worst run organizations in professional sports. Just admit that Dubas wasen’t good enough and that you have low standards.

“Really smart guy,” an NHL player agent who has done business with Treliving said. “He’s a ball-buster and not afraid to tell you to you know what. No issue if he’s the guy the Leafs hire.”

If the Leafs get to a point where one of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner or William Nylander is to be traded, no one we’ve talked to thinks Treliving wouldn’t be able to make it happen for Toronto.
Well, can’t ever imagine Dubas busting anyone’s balls so that will be a nice change. Let the agents sweat a bit.

Eat your heart out fire Dubas crowd. You guys deserve the shit show this team is about to become

Yes I'm sure this team will fall apart without the wizardry of Kyle Dubas.

Toronto is an Original Six team with the second most Cups in league history. The fans should demand so much better than what they got under Kyle Dubas.

The team was a punchline around the league, mocked for being soft, weak and playoff no-shows. Why would anyone want the person responsible for that to continue to run the team?

The bar should *much* higher in Toronto. This team shouldn't have been a joke, it should have been the best chance for the team to win a Cup in my lifetime. Dubas made a series of costly errors that he refused to acknowledge were errors and the team failed in the same way, due to the same problems, year after year.

Fans should be rejoicing that he's gone, and yet, here you are, pretending the sky is falling because this colossal failure has left the team.

Demand better.

Pretty juvenile way to look at things.
Not sure why anyone would automatically assume things will get worse or be over joyed with the lack of playoff success.

This is exactly it. And I am saying we are going right back to this worst run BS. Making franchise altering decisions on a whim, hiring Nonis type GM's. Awful, awful stuff.

Two years with the 2000-ish team, two trips to ECF. Neither of them, IMO, were a real threat at going all the way to the Cup. Never quite good enough.

The two runs in the 90's, those were legit shots.

So Shanny intended to retain Dubas, and then run it back with Keefe and the core?

I am really not liking this stale direction

At the same time he could have just said that to make the negotiating with Matthews easier. Everyone knows how close he and Marner are, if the message was your best friend might be on the move it becomes a bit tougher to negotiate. I don't put too much weight on those calls at all.

looking back on trelivings last coach you have to think Keefe s not his man. The only thing is Keefes familiarity with the players. Maybe he rides him out?
Just me speculating but usually new GMs don’t like rocking the boat too much.

I think he’ll keep Keefe but at the first sign of trouble, he’ll fire him or so I hope he would.

What franchise altering decisions? Replacing Dubas with a GM with a similar playoff and drafting record? He hasen’t even been officially hired and you’re already losing your mind. Atleast give him a chance and see where it goes.

That may end up being the case. But some other folks were outright denying they had even happened despite all the reports to the contrary
