It’s pretty easy. This was rumoured months ago.

Mirtle (as much has he now seems to be a dubas shill…. Probably always was) said way back in March that the rumours were that dubas was going to pitt. And reliving was taking over

Before anything was announced.

When dubas shelved the extension talks to may ir was over. Like who doesn’t extend prior to the playoffs.

Assuming ownership didn't order him to hire Treliving, this is probably Shanahan's last GM hire, so you would think he would go the extra mile to get it right.

Including Nonis, this will be Shanahan's fourth GM. The third one Shanahan hired. The second for what just might be the most critical years of the entire Leafs franchise.

And he goes with nepotism.

No real search was conducted. Treliving got the only live interview. He was an easy hire because he's good buddies with ownership.

Not because of outstanding merit.

Shanahan's not stupid. He knows who butters his bread. He's not going to bite the hand that feeds him.

Shanahan exemplifies everything wrong with this franchise.

From the buddy, buddy relationship the former GM had with the players. To the whole "let's just hire someone we know" talent recruitment. It's abundantly clear management values friendship over winning.

That all starts at the top, with Shanahan.

Treliving loses one fo the core to free agency, trades on the young players for two overrated players, signs them to insane contracts and then they miss the playoffs. That could also happen.
Treliving loses one fo the core to free agency

Then your favourite players are liars, because they repeatedly say they want to stay.

trades on the young players for two overrated players,

He doesn’t have that kind of power. Shanahan and the board call the shots. His main job will be to re-sign the core and fill out a team that can drag them the most playoff rounds as possible.

signs them to insane contracts
That would have happened under Dubas because these guys aren’t taking discounts. They all want max dollars, medium term. the board wants to make the playoffs. This team is going to be run back and Treliving will be directed to sign at all costs. The players want the $$$$ and MLSE wants the $$$$. And if there is anything left over for the fans, some type of winning, bonus.

There's no perfect recipe for winning the Stanley Cup so this move neither gets me excited nor do i hate it. I think they could have stuck with Dubas for a bit longer(and i didn't like him after the first several years because everything was going based on analytics and not much else)...But this could end up worse based on this guy's vision of how a team should be built(at least Dubas made some tiny improvements each year which is something). Did anyone think Florida would be in the Finals though? I like their goalie and maybe 1 or 2 other players but it's not that impressive team imo...But anyways..

I don't like the idea of trading Mitch, Auston or Willy as you'll have to replace them with very similar players(JT should be going but we know that won't happen).

Oh Shanahan 🤦‍♂️
He is gonna wreck everything he has built up with the firing/hiring of Dubas and Brad.

Stupid to fire Dubas if he is the best option.

Honest question, how long did he have Sutter as coach before realizing he was ruining the locker room. Or was that a different gm?

Can't take a pass, doesn't win enough board battles, doesn't hit enough despite being big, isn't fast, and can't produce in the playoffs.

Somehow that got him $4.5 x 4.
Why is it assumed Dubas would have paid him that? Shirley he would have recognized and properly assessed the value.

Kyle Dubas fans have trouble moving on.

Underwhelmed? Good, the last time you got bamboozled by a fancy new stat-driven approach, let's take a deep breath and give the new GM as much time as you demanded for Kyle when he started.

GLG !

Everybody was singing his praise a year ago. Year plays our horribly, coach fired a year too late, Huberdeau overpaid and not the right fit and they miss the playoffs.

Look he is not the worst candidate in the world but the Flames lost Gudreau for nothing under his watch. We simply can’t have that. I would rather rebuild than let Matthews, Nylander and then Marner and JT walk for nothing. Furthermore he needs to brutal with negotiations, I don’t expect deep discounts but our players need to understand there is no CDN Tax, tough market bullshit value being added to their AAV. It starts with Matthews and should follow. Kid doesn’t deserve more than 12 but okay I get it his contract doesn’t kick in for a year and he wants to be the highest paid NHLer so 12.7-he wants more or anything other than a 8 year contract he is gone. You then roll from there.

The Leafs don't have a new GM at the moment though it is rumoured that they have hired Teliving.

Matthews with a full NMC kicking in on July 1st looks like a prime candidate

Imagine being the GM that lost Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Matthews?
I think the blame would be on Dubas for that. A hew GM coming in a month before a NMC kicks in shouldn't be held accountable for that.

It's bizarre that so many people are still fixated on this 'Are you pro Dubas or not?' mentality. The guy is gone lol, let's all just move on with our lives and try to be united, at least for one offseason.
It's hard to feel positive with this potential hire, though.

Sure, I just meant that it's silly that some people are still judging other posters on whether they liked Dubas or not. It's a weird attempt to discredit other posters.
There is a lot of that here, but Dubas sort of goes hand in hand with an identity. I am sure there are a few people who liked Kyle, but didn't always sing the praises of how rewarding the Hypothetical Cup was to win.

And yet you don't dispute any of the facts as I listed them here.

Because that's what most of my comment is: a listing of facts.

Whether you like the facts or not isn't up to me.
To be fair, your post was mainly speculation and personal opinion, not fact per se.
