2014 on.. which are good? 15/16 are the only good ones.

Bennett at 4 is not good.
You'll notice that I didn't even include Bennett in my list because Treliving was hired in April of 2014 and so I don't think he really 'made' that decision.

It's fine, you're looking strictly at games played instead of that plus prospects that are likely to make an impact in the near future. I even split it into two easy lists - one of NHLers who have played a decent amount of games, and one list for prospects. My only point is that he has success drafting NHLers and soon to be NHLers, which is indisputable.

Sure, and they lost Fox as well. My point was just that he has a decent track record in the draft.

Well Fox was a little bit different. They traded him because he didn't want to play there, not because he wasn't good enough. Valimaki was lost on waivers because he wasn't good enough to crack their team.

I guess he is doing better in Arizona, so maybe that is more on factors beyond drafting. It is not like Valimaki was a poor choice in that range, just did not work out in Calgary. So alright, you could do worse but you hope that a 1st round pick doesn't leave for nothing only to figure it out elsewhere.

Please do a great job.
True story, in early 2011 I went to Estevan for the opening of a new arena, and Brian Burke was the headline speaker. After his speech there was the opportunity to go shake his hand, get a photo, autograph, etc. But I've never been a person who likes to take up famous peoples' time. I didn't need a photo or sig or anything. I just introduced myself, shook his hand hard, looked straight into his eyes, and with my sad/abused/dying-for-something-to-be-excited-about Leafs fan look, said to him, "please do this right. No quick fixes. Just do it right." and he looked back at me as serious as one could, and said, "I will, James. I will." and I was never more sure of anything in my life, as I was in that moment, that Brian Burke would build the Leafs into a winner.

Same people pissed at this hire would’ve loved Tulsky who they only know as a mystery box Carolina’s Assistant GM. They probably have no idea that before Treliving built a perennial contender in Calgary, he was the AGM for the Coyotes when they went to the conference finals.

The man has done a good job working with teams with little resources and clout.

Coming into a really tough spot but have to hope he picks the right coach and makes a few key moves to get us over the top.

Although this was from 2014 so his opinion could have changed but this is what he said about how he views the game.

"I think the style of play, people talk about big and whatever word you want to use, I think you need to have heavy teams now," he said. "I think you have to play a heavy game. That's not just a personal preference. Turn on the TV tonight and watch the games."

"There are steps along the way. We've got to take a lot of steps but in order to be there at the end, to build a championship, you do have to have a blueprint and you look at the games that are being played now. It's hard hockey. It's heavy hockey. It's a man's game. It's a big boy's game out there right now. In order to have success, I fully believe you have to have a team that can play in those games."

This is a MASSIVE improvement over the soft, slow, undersized finesse players that Dubas tried to fill the roster with every year.

Treliving on Advanced Stats from an Interview with Friedman in 2020.

“I guess I'll just say that advanced stats tell part of the story, but still not the whole story. It's definitely more valuable than just looking at the counting stats, but it isn't perfect. Take it for what it is, but don't base every thought on just those numbers.”

Another COLOSSAL upgrade over Dubas relying on his spreadsheets instead of actually watching the games to evaluate players.

Hyman for Greg McKegg

Kapanen and Muzzin were both pretty damn good.

Also rare to have a GM who doesn't mess up too many trades. Foligno is the one glaring problem that just did not have a ton of upside. That is the only one I would certainly say the Leafs should never make ever again.

You dont even know what you wrote 5 minutes ago? Go back and read that again, you will find a little something about Dubas trading 1st round picks.

Who is the buddy of Dubas in the Pittsburgh ownership?

Thank you I'm more than fine here. I wanna see your reactions when the new GM butcheres the franchise on every july 1st like he always does
I said that in a different comment to a completely different post making a joke about bad goalie signings.

I don't remember his full name but it was Beeston or something like that. He's pretty high up in the FSG and part of the hiring process for Pens GM.

I've been cheering for this team when we had some of the worst GMs ever and even when we hired another bad one I didn't care because it was something new and couldn't get worse than failure before them. Dubas didn't win shit here after inheriting the best core we've ever had so I'm not gonna praise him like he was the best GM ever or in the league just because I liked the guy.

Can never doubt the courage of his convictions. He tried. Everyone post-Ballard has tried seriously, largely. Dubas tried. None of them maliciously pooched it.

How did they make a great move in cashing out when they lost Marchment for nothing? It did them nothing. You're arguing that a trade is only a 'win' if you win the Cup - the Panthers won nothing of substance with Marchment on their roster then lost him for nothing.

Two completely different trades first of all, different context applies.

One was a 1-for-1 swap of 4th line / AHL'ers.

The other was a 3-for-1 swap of three futures (1st, Durzi, Grundstrom) for a then-current, declining NHL'er (Muzzin)

Different motivations, different payoffs intended.

One was a roster swap, the other was a mortgage on the future for current success that never came.

LA called in our loan on the future and is now enjoying it, and maybe they'll be pieces of a successful squad, maybe not. Or maybe they'll turn them into something else that can also be used for a winning team. Their possibility is still completely there for either outcome, Toronto's is 100% gone.

0 points sucks a lot more than 60,
Malgin had 4 points this year. Though traded, the Leafs won a round. Marchment's 60 points in his two Florida years produced no series wins. Which means 4 > 60 (HA!)

But they both still suck.

As long as he doesn't sign Sutter. Although he would be funny with the media in this city.
No chance of that.
