In the two seasons he was still under contract with the Panthers when Dubas traded him, Mason Marchment scored as follows:

2020-21Florida PanthersNHL33281018462028
2021-22Florida PanthersNHL54182947532941016

Denis Malgin scored 0 points for the Leafs in that same time.

Zero.

That's 57 more regular season points and 3 more playoff points than Denis Malgin scored, which again, was zero.

You think this was a good trade though

I'm not a fan of this. The team is just a corporation, they will never rock the boat. Shanny probably feels safer with him as GM.

I will give any GM a chance to see if Marner et al are traded. Othewise, I will take the season off. It's been too long watching this team over the decades, eventually the interest fades when the joke is on us.

Looks like he would have fit in then, he does nothing in the playoffs, glad we can agree on something else now, that the regular season is important.

So far you have agreed that the Tavares contract is good, Marner is paid fairly, and the regular season matters as much as playoffs.

Only shitshow is these boards and twitter whining non stop about a report from Dreger about hiring a guy who was a GM in a place no player wants to go to and cheap ownership who doesn't give a damn about the team and still put together a good roster. We were fine losing 1st rounds under Dubas but aren't ok bringing in someone else who made the 2nd round 2 times and the rest 1st round exits.

So ownership is cheap when it comes to Tkachuk but lets him sign a 30 year old guy to 8X10M?

Oh you are salty about trading 1st round picks? Have a look at who and what he traded for Travis freaking Hamonic, who of course has left the team as a UFA, just like everyone else.

Treliving has won one more first round than Dubas, and no, the others werent 1st round exits, there were multiple missed playoffs as well.

But hey, at least Dubi glasses is gone and the ownership got their buddys little son

He wasn’t my preference, but wtf do I know? I hope he comes in with a clear plan to do some lifting this summer and get us on track to compete at a higher level, come playoff time. He doesn’t have to build Rome in a day, here. The foundation is built, for the most part. Time to tweak and get this machine moving forward.

Why would you expect a player to perform in the playoffs who was acquired for Denis Malgin, a player of zero value?

There's, umm, I guess one of your problems...

So far you have agreed that the Tavares contract is good, Marner is paid fairly, and the regular season matters as much as playoffs.

I said none of that, clearly, but am really looking forward to dunking on more of the BS you push

It's a little too easy.

Malgin for Marchment was a "good" trade?

Yikes! :biglaugh:

What’s the worst than can happen?
Treliving overpays the core, they get 100 points, make the playoffs and lose in the first round. It will be like Dubas never left. That’s the bar at the moment. Anything more is gravy.

If Treliving leads the Leafs to 1 playoff series win over the next 5 years, Leaf Nation fans will scream bloody murder.

Wait, why does that record give me a Déjà vu feeling?

Oh, nevermind, been there, and done that !! :wg:

We’re losing sight of the important thing here, MLSE continues to be profitable and now has a more pleasant work environment with less back-talk about some “hockey” thing their subordinates keep complaining about.

That's definitely not the worst that can happen. I would call that the average mediocre outcome.

He sucks too, but at least we never paid him $4.5M.

Nothing to do with the valuation of the trade.

The trade was Malgin for Marchment and what Dallas decided to sign him for was their perogative. And Florida's for declining.

Florida reaped the absolute maximum value from the trade, Marchment's production as a player, meanwhile Malgin scored 0 points for Toronto and had to play in Europe to get ice-time.

I also never brought up Marchment. Not sure why the poster I'm responding to likes bringing up trades Dubas got fleeced?

Mark Hunter had the same access to the resources Dubas had - Dubas built it up to begin with, and he netted 4 significant players over 18 picks. 2 of which were first rounders which you didn't count so call it 2/16 picks.

Incorrect. Under Dubas's tenure, we had Lilley and Clarke leading the drafts. Under Mark Hunter, the decision was Hunters.

Also, I didn't count the 1st rounders because it really isn't fair. Outside of the top 10, I honestly don't think we've (Leafs) have hit a homerun on any pick. Calgary hasn't had a lot of chances to draft in the top 10 either and when they did, they took Tkachuk.

Their 2016 Draft blows anything Dubas' team has done out with Tkachuk, Fox and Dube all contributors.

I’m good with Treliving. Not jumping for joy on it but willing to give him a chance.

In the end, they both suck.

I live in Calgary. I understand the market. Tre lowballed Johnny the summer before, and he rejected the offer. He didn't negotiate during the year, and left during free agency.

So, if we blame the GM in Toronto for overpaying players, do we blame Tre for losing players and overpaying a 29 year old Huberdeau until he is 37? Or does he just get a mulligan on that because it is Calgary?

Gaudreau leaving had more to do with his wife wanting to be close to her family than Gaudreau wanting to leave the flames according to the few reports
