I have to say I knew this would generate discussion I never knew we'd see 96 pages and nearly 2400 replies
Oopsie, sorry about that, must have been before my "morning" coffee which was late today cause of slight hangover.I don't know who you have been speaking to but I guaranteeyou It's not me, I'm harder on goaltending then arguably anybody on here.
Are you sure you weren't talking to @Dekes For Days or somebody?
I don't know who it was but I guarantee you it wasn't me
I blame Lafferty.I have to say I knew this would generate discussion I never knew we'd see 96 pages and nearly 2400 replies
Erik Gustafsson's got 14 points already this year
Don't worry, I'll remind you when I end up being right about their record.Oopsie, sorry about that, must have been before my "morning" coffee which was late today cause of slight hangover.
I thought you were @Evilhomer for some reason, once again, my apologies.
In all honesty, quite the oversight by the Leafs to let him walk. They could have doubled his current aav and he'd be millions cheaper than what Klingberg ended up costing.

Give it a rest with Gustafson already. A career 7th dmanIn all honesty, quite the oversight by the Leafs to let him walk. They could have doubled his current aav and he'd be millions cheaper than what Klingberg ended up costing.
I think the offense will certainly be the biggest factor in their run, but I also think they will stabilize defensively. I'm not worried about the goalies. Once the team defense stabilizes, the goalie's numbers will naturally improve. At least two additional defensemen will also be acquired between now and the deadline. For the record I hope @Evilhomer is right, but even if he is, I suspect it would be due to the offense over anything else.
I have 0 confidence in Samsonov and only slightly more in Woll at this point.

I hope that happens, but I doubt it.Don't worry, I'll remind you when I end up being right about their record.
I'm still cautiously optimistic re. Woll but yeah Sammy, not so much. Our goaltending is big question mark, not much else to say there. For the record I hope @Evilhomer is right, but even if he is, I suspect it would be due to the offense over anything else.

A good or bad defensive can make a goalie seem a lot better or a lot worse than they really are.The problem is an 878 save% is not a defense issue when you are at 878 that means your goalie isn't doing his job.
A good or bad defensive can make a goalie seem a lot better or a lot worse than they really are.
But yeah when you are down to .878 the goalie is playing terribly no matter how bad the team D is.
1. Wrong, the league min is used up because we must carry a certain number of players. It could be more. The team needed toughness and puck movers on the D core , there wasn't a D that combined those skills in the off season so he took a swing on Berg and missed , good thing it was only for 1 yr .
I like the total disaster comment coming from the Dubas supporters who cheered him on while he had to pay to continually fix his mistakes . I guess your so used to a GM who gave his mistakes term it upsets you Tre doesn't have to pay to get rid off this mistake . lol .
and we only have to deduct a league min salary if we don't spend the cap on a D

Why do you think that was if he was seen as so important this year ?

Over the course of the last 5 NHL seasons the 31 year old journeyman Dman Gustafsson changed teams 8 times, most of those non playoff teams.
Why do you think that was?
I think the bigger oversight might have been the 23 year Rasmus Sandin ($1,400,000 AAV) that was dealt to Washington who put up 7 goals 28 assists and 35 points last year (where Gustafsson was a toss in coming back to TO) was a questionable trade and perhaps far more useful now to Toronto and the future.

wrong because if we spend the cap space to acquire a D then the league min player won't be on the roster1. Wrong, the league min is used up because we must carry a certain number of players. It could be more.
2. Signing this extreme long shot restricted us in our search for free agents or trades. Our hands were tied. Our cap was used up.
This has nothing to do with Dubas, I was glad when he showed his true colours.
yup Keefe and Tre undervalued him as well as 6 previous teams including the Hawks who had him on 2 separate occasionsGustafsson has 14 points in 19 games so far this season while carrying a caphit of less than 1 mil. While our GM decided to waste 4 mil on a washed up Klingberg. By simply extending Gustafsson, not only would the Leafs have a puck moving D man who could actually put up points, they would have had 3+ mil to spend on another player.
I liked Sandin, but his injury history + lack of consistency made it so I was fine with the trade, though not overjoyed by it.
I think the biggest lesson here is both Keefe and Tre undervalued Gustafsson, to the detriment of the team this year.
42 points last season, and pacing more for that this year.
He's not a top pairing guy, but that's not #7 level production either.
All for 825k.
Dramatic...1 in 10m Is not dramatic?wrong because if we spend the cap space to acquire a D then the league min player won't be on the roster
yup a 1 in 10mil longshot . lol . stop being so dramatic
your the one who said it was an extreme long shot . lolDramatic...1 in 10m Is not dramatic?

You know gets a 1 year 825k deal as a UFA, 7th dman. I couldn’t care less what he is doing. Every team in the league didn’t value this guy as anythingGustafsson has 14 points in 19 games so far this season while carrying a caphit of less than 1 mil. i agree but this guys 31 and on his 8th team , there's got to be a reason for thatKeefe barely gave him a shot. The team desperately needed some offensive help on the blue line in the playoffs and he played only two games (pretty good game 3 vs FLA; scored as well)
The writing was on the wall with all those healthy scratches.
I was correct...your the one who said it was an extreme long shot . lol
