Yes, undervalued guys are often overlooked..... And as a result the Leafs spent 4 million on a worse player

NYR fans are probably pretty happy with the result.
and Dubas spent 9m more as well as trading a 1st and a 2nd on a slight upgrade so it could be worse

The Leafs will have 5 regulation wins in 19 games at the conclusion of the game.

Weird that is what the previous GM did continually.....look for undervalued players everywhere.

And got crapped on because they weren't names, or someone's favourite.

Why mention Dubas at all? He has nothing to do with this....

Edit: Karlsson wouldn't have been a good fit with the Leafs either , so I don't get this fixation on him
I thought we were discussing possible destinations for Gus and teams that passed on him.

It's game 19 after inheriting below average defence and below average goaltending.

Having strong feelings against makes no sense as of today.

This is the first time in long time matthews-marner aren't masking issues. That's really the only thing that has changed so far and it probably won't last.

Our problems aren't new and not caused by new gm. Has he fixed it? No. Who could have after only 19 games and one UFA.

Keefe barely gave him a shot. The team desperately needed some offensive help on the blue line in the playoffs and he played only two games (pretty good game 3 vs FLA; scored as well)

The writing was on the wall with all those healthy scratches.
Also interesting that Laviolette had him in Washington last season and both ended up with the Rangers this season.

Uh oh, you've done it now. You made a very rational post that suggests the issues with the team and roster construction didn't start the day the previous GM was "let go".

Treliving should be fired. The Leafs are a complete mess.
Sarcasm? If not, do you think the issues that plagues this roster started in the off-season? Did you expect the new GM to rebuild the entire D (except Mo) in a couple of months?

The 2nd and 3rd lines have looked good for while. Tre's biggest moves was adding Bertuzzi and Domi. He missed on adding Klingberg (likely LTIR for rest of season) and Reeves to the roster. I would say the off-season moves are still a net positive.

Dubas and Shanahan caused this
We could be an 8th seed and silly willy and marnet walk for free next 2 years lol

It started when Shanahan fired dubas then brought a gm in that wasn't allowed to deal anyone
Shanahan is the blame

He's got to get Matthews signed we all know that but at this point there is not a single thing he's done that we can be heavily critical of.

Bertuzzi and Domi were great signings that give the Leafs a fantastic top 6 instead of a top 4 with 2 guys you hope work out.

Klingberg filled the need for a secondary puck mover.

Reaves is probably signed for a year to long but this team NEEDED a player like him.

Gambell and Jones are both players we know can provide NHL minutes when injury happens.

You got a former NHL assistant coach as your AHL Head Coach.

And a former NHL Head coach as one of your NHL assistant coach with the other assistant being a cup winning assistant coach.

When the worst thing I can say is that Ryan Reaves should have been given a 2 year contract instead of 3 I think that's pretty good.

Brad Treliving is doing a great job.
Time for tre to address this mess .
Got some home games coming that are pretty much must win
Team needs to know u got their back

Dubas would be trading picks from the 2027-2030 drafts to fix the mess he walked away from. No thanks. Seen enough of that clown at the controls.

It's game 19 after Treliving inherited a team that was good defensively and got good goaltending last year.
The goaltenders are the same. Samsonov is brutal and don’t tell me because of the defence. He is letting in goals a 97 year old would stop.

Just curious after 19 games last year, how many of those players were starters in the playoffs and not UFA’s?

Kerfoot, Malgin, Holl, O’Reilly, Acciari, Muzzin,
Matt Murray, Schenn, Engvall, Bunting, ZAR, Aube-Kubel, Sandin

That’s 8 players by my count that were either added at the deadline or pending UFA’s or on LTIR.

That’s a lot of turnover from game 19 from a team that Dubas was so proud of

It is not like we are not playing the same goalie that the Caps threw to the curb and Dubas picked.
Treliving chose to re-sign him for double the cap hit. And then go with him and a rookie.
And then he replaced a bunch of really good defensive players and PKers with a collection of some of the worst defensive players in the league to play in front.
And somehow we're blaming the only Leafs GM in the cap era to produce good defensive teams.

Dubas handed Tre a hand grenade and Tre pulled the pin. Two wrongs do not make a right.

The thing that you are ignoring that Tre had very little time to mold the team into what he envisions a team to be. You must really like that Pens' D that Dubas built.

yup , he should have known Gio/Brodie are washed and McCabe who Dubas spent a 1st and 2nd on is just a meh bottom pair D

Tre could have easily added 3 solid top 4 D with the odd draft pick and empty prospect cupboard Dubas left
No 2nd this yr
No 1st or 2nd next yr
Not much to work with

Knies Cowen Minten and Grebyonkin we need good young players on ELC contracts

and no 2nds for the next three drafts, lol

shocking how much draft capital he traded to try to reshape the team at the t/d and his supporters just widely keep cheering him on . lol

Treliving inherited a great team and situation, and had plenty of time, cap space, and available roster spots to make his mark on the team.
All he had to do was maintain what he was given. Instead, he made it worse with bad decisions.

I don't really care about what Pittsburgh does, but interestingly, Pittsburgh has improved their xGA/60 from last year by +0.09, while Toronto has dropped by -0.24.
