There is only one man suited for replacing Heiskanen, he just needs to be woken up first.

They need to pull Hughes out of the tourney, he's already playing with an injured hand or wrist.

And if Pettersson has a chronic injury, as some people speculate, pull him out too.

I was a bit worried about what was going to happen between EP40 and JTM when they played each other, and how it would effect the already fragile team chemistry. Now, very interesting...

If EP can’t handle intensity and competition from a meaningless tournament, he’s not made to lead in the playoffs and Canucks should be weary of his impending no movement clause.

I think it is. See Pietrangelo. Or you’re talking about players deciding themselves?

Either way, unlike with the all star game there’s no automatic one game suspension for missing it.

I meant that I think the players can decide, like Pietrangelo, but I don’t think teams can stop a player from playing if he wants to since it’s an NHL event.

I’m torn, because he should probably rest, but I also want to see him play with some actual forward talent for once

Obviously resting Hughes would be best for the Canucks but he seems to be 'day-to-day', the 4-nations Cup has a pretty light schedule, and he probably actually wants to play. It's not quite a best on best tournament, but it also isn't the star game. He'd probably love to suit up with his brother and compete against team Canada.

Attending the tournament would be a poor choice on his part.

I think it would send the wrong message to the team, and now is a time where this team badly needs their captain to lead them.

He has to prioritize being healthy for a playoff push over a meaningless tournament.

Literally no one on the team would give him shit for going.

Are we sure Pettersson is playing in the 4 Nations? I keep hearing that he's injured.

Surely he would take this time to rest right?

Far more beneficial for the team to have EP40 go so they can see what he's like with other high-end players.

agreed, i think playing with elite players is always a good thing, even if it is a short stint tournament

this applies less to hughes because hronek is pretty damn good, but for pettersson it could be a god send to get wingers like forsberg, nylander, and kempe to build his confidence back up.

i want hughes to rest for the canucks, but also lowkey because he tilts the ice in the us' favour. gimmick tournament or not, we like 12 hours of political posturing away from that matchup being more heated than the summit series lmao.

On the other hand, some rest for his knee might be more beneficial. Tough call. I guess there are benefits either way so I'm neutral about Petey.

I prefer Hughes to sit this out and rest, but I completely understand wanting to play with his bros. The states have such a loaded lineup, and it is a relatively light schedule, I don't think Hughes would play too many minutes or be overly taxing on him. As long as he is healthy I don't see a problem with him going.
