Correct, the team that he apparently can't motivate anymore has determined this isn't a playoff team
Would it make a damn difference if both Sutter and Lombardi were fired in the morning?
Gaborik was brutal and has been for 95% of this season. Breasts on a bull.
Do you really believe this stuff, I mean really?
I don't know if you follow other sports but this is Isiah Thomas and Matt Millen bad since 2014.
Significantly worse results on the ice, significantly less younger talent, significantly higher payroll.
The Kings are old, expensive and in the black hole. The worst spot you can be in this sport.

Cut it out, Herby. Anytime you need to make an arguement with a qualifier you're gonna lose me. He isn't Matt ****ing Millen bad, and you don't get use "since 2014" when comparing the two. Millen was an unqualified hack did **** all for DET. Ever.
And hell yes, we have a **** ton of young talent. Are we getting older in some key areas, sure. But we're also getting younger in some key areas as well.
I admire your enthusiasm and optimism, but what exactly does the bolded part mean?
The 1C and 1G are past their prime. The 1D has not played to the level required for the Kings to be successful and is in his late 20's.
This roster is not a cup contender.

As in the critical area of goal scoring? Aside from Kempe, we still depend on guys who will, , be the following age:
Kopitar - 30
Brown - 32 (turns 33 November)
Carter - 32
Gaborik -35
Lewis - 30
Toffoli - 25
Pearson - 25
I assume we will lose Dowd in the expansion draft as the Kings will probably go with an 8-1 since their 4 D hold a higher value than Dowd (Unless their is a trade)
We are fortunate Lombardi got out bid for Lucic.
He had to sign Kopitar for stupid money, and Kopitar played this year like he got his. He did not have to sign Gaborik to retirement money. And he assumed a broken player in Richards would miraculously find his game vs just buying him out without impact to cap. Brown fell off the earth, tea leaves said he might do that, but there was a chance all the hits he dished out would not impact his game as he got older. And you know what actually this year Brown has rallied well, still not worth what he is being paid, but the gap closed.
Last couple of years the game has changed to a bit more scoring and speed, and it will change again in the future. Maybe it will come back to control the puck, shoot mostly harmless shots, hope for a rebound or tip and grind out 2-1 wins, for the fans sake we can only hope so.
Conjecture and absolutes do nothing for your arguement. Kopi may or may not be playing with a lingering injury, the kind, you know, that requires rest/rehab/or surgery. It may also be a thing, and I'm sure you've heard this term, "an off year." Slow your roll, brother. Don't be so fickle. Let's wait and see another season from 11 before we proclaim him "duhz worstestest contract on duh kingz!!11!!"
Quick was injured all season, so I won't even address how blatantly disingenuous that comment is, thine child.
If I need to point out the youth all over the roster then your fan card should be revoked, 17.
Finally, no one is saying the roster is a goddamn cup contender, 17. And I'm just as pissed as the rest of you, to the point where I do want a change in HC.
But all this hand-wringing at DL, when he's tried and tried, and continues to stock the farm and club with promise while still trying to give Sutter a winning team, well even despite the cups, that's admirable and his job and he will continue to get my support.
It's sad how many people still defended dopey ****ing Dustin Brown after multiple years of suck, and are jumping all over Kopitar after one.
Kopitar has been our most consistent forward for a literal decade. I'm willing to give him another year, at least, to return to 60-70 points.
If you want to trade him and go scorched earth, fine. But that means true scorched earth. Carter goes. Quick goes. Everyone 30 and older goes.
Most of us saw the writing on the wall with this team back in June. It's also clear the Lombardi was hamstrung by the approaching expansion draft. It is what it is. We're past our prime. Either ride out the black hole, or blow it up.
The age of our FWDs, skill FWDs, is a little concerning, Sanford. But your two bottom players listed are awefully young (albeit, about to be somewhat expensive), and saying "aside from Kempe" -- well, he is on our team, and he may be a force.
Our FWD depth at the skill positions has certainly taken the biggest hit (both, due to contracts and top picks traded) of all of our on-ice positions.
But, if we're gonna include skill at fwd, why not mention the skill on D emerging?
I agree with you on D, but I just don't think in the current environment you can maintain success, with the same philosophy of slower forwards who do not put pressure on the opponents. Kempe actually puts pressure on the D with his speed.
Trouty we have 1 scoring line, 1!.
I don't want to see Mersch because he is another cookie cutter big, grinding forward, oh boy.
There is nothing that can be done at this point, the Kings are caught in a system, have drafted to it. They are like Blackberry, it was cool what they were doing when it first came out, but they never adjusted to changes and the results are showing.
I actually was bummed a bit they missed out on Zach Aston-Reese, then I read he was a grinder. So was actually happy he chose not to come. We have plenty of grinders.
One of the symptoms of a player being his prime is more frequent and severe injuries.
If the roster isn't a cup contender while being one of the most expensive and oldest in the NHL, what's the point of keeping it together?
Sutter can stay or go. It won't matter. You would advocate keeping the same key players on the roster for next season. They would all just be a year older and hoping to recapture the form they displayed 3 years ago.
Is there anyone here that doesn't want to fire Dean? I feel alone and cold, somebody hug me
Too late for this move. Why would any team want to sit mired in the black hole for years?
