We need to take a deep breath before paying Perron these numbers. Can make it work this year but bigger issue is following year. You sign Perron to that contract and add top pairing D, letting Tank walk isn't likely to be enough to get RT and JK signed. You need to deal someone else or let ROR walk.

This, or the other possibility would be to move out another piece that can be internally replaced.

That's the main reason I think keeping Perunovich is a good idea. He has already shown that he can be an effective PPQB. If by next season we have a major crunch, Krug might be the best option to move out, since Peru would be a pretty ideal candidate in replacing his roles and minutes.

That would be jumping the gun. For me it’s Barbashev atm and I think Kyrou gets a bridge similiar to Oshie back in the day and I doubt ROR commands more given his current production (and hopefully his willingness to take a slight discount, barring any massive production/play drop off) and with tarasenkos co tract off the books I’d say keeping Thomas is easy

If we do lose a forward or 2 because of cap, an interesting pickup could be Puljujarvi. There are some comparables between his game and Nichushkin's.

He's on my short list of cheap options for 3rd line RW. Don't think the cost to acquire him would be that significant. Perhaps Husso's rights and a pick would get it done?

And the reasons why I think it would be a big pickup have nothing to do with the hope of him realizing his full potential. He's got that combo of size and skating ability which is an asset in transitioning the puck, he's already a good 2-way/defensive forward, and while not a true top line player, he's got enough offense for a 3rd part of a middle 6 line, and there might be some potential of being a good fit with ROR.

So to me, it's not really like a Yakupov reclamation project, but it's taking what he currently does well and believing there is a good fit.

After watching Pulju play in the playoffs, could not be any less interested in signing him.
I'm not terribly interested in him either, but it does seem like a Blues type of move that wouldn't surprise me if it happened.

Pulju only makes sense if he's fairly cheap. But I wouldn't be opposed to grabbing him for the 3rd line.

yeah, if/when poolparty gets traded, i think it's a solid bet the receiving team is looking to move him out of the top 6. he's got the defensive game, but can't finish well enough to eat top line minutes on a good team.

Or in a top 6 situation that's more beneficial to him, which I know is silly to say since he had McDavid. I do think a ROR/Perron or ROR/Buchnevich combo would do that though, where it's a 2-way focused line with 2 linemates that are going to do the driving

He averaged 10 minutes per game in the playoffs, in case you were wondering how Edmonton's coaching staff viewed his ability to play in the top 6.

3 yr 15 mill is my max offer. Not a penny more. And I love Perron
Pay the man, but get creative in doing so. Perron can do the Hossa/Weber/Clarkson song and dance in the twilight years.

6 years, 24M, AAV of 4M, front loaded to the extent allowed by the CBA

I think my favorite article I read today was on the Hockey Writers and how the maple Leafs should go after Robert Thomas and a possible package would be Sandin, Robertson and another good prospect. Or maybe a package around Barbashev for the often Injured Jake Muzzin

Maybe don't go 6 years on Perron but getting creative with contracts is one way to massage the cap and bring back as much of last year's team as possible while retaining the ability to possibly improve the overall group.

I think the best case scenario right now is a 6-4.5-3 deal with a $4.5M AAV. More likely to be a 2 year deal with an AAV starting with a 5.

surprised it wasn't a Thomas to MTL proposal. that fan base has been lusting for him forever

my fave was Thomas+ for Price.. and how STL should be grateful for the honor lol

Some of you might get your wish with Krug. I've assumed that Perunovich would go, but the idea that they both can't fit into the same lineup is likely correct. If you can move Krug, Perunovich would provide a similar level on the PP, and we'd free up a lot of flexibility to add the right piece to the top 4. \

Tarasenko still has his trade request. I'm expecting a move at the draft since the chances we extend him are near 0, so time to get some value and create cap space for Perron/Leddy/etc.
