Buying out Myers will actually give them cap credit. Presumably this deal lets them keep palat and whomever else they were prioritizing.
I guess I was referring more to the TB fans that thought McDonagh was gonna bring 'value' back

that contract was NEVER going to bring anything of value back except cap space.. and there's nothing wrong with that

2nd time McDonagh has become available and the Blues weren't interested enough. Hope Army has something in store for the defense, because Krug/Faulk/Parayko as the lead-dogs is woefully inadequate for competing for a championship. They need at least one more guy to do some heavy-lifting. Yeah - McDonagh's remaining contract is a concern...and yeah, it's fair to take a pass on it. However, only if there's a move coming. To pass on that opportunity and then do nothing would be inexcusable. Which is why I'm confident something else is coming...

How do you know the blues weren't interested enough? McDonagh has a full NTC so he can choose where he goes and maybe he didn't choose the blues. Nashville also is in a low tax state so that might've helped

I think it's clear that the NTC was a key factor and that his ability to basically choose his destination certainly lowered the return for him via trade. Perhaps timing was another factor as TB didn't want to wait long to open up cap space, while Armstrong probably needs to figure out Perron's situation before making any other big moves.

I dunno. Twice he went elsewhere. Perhaps STL wasn’t interested at all or perhaps McDonagh only accepted Nashville, but I’d think STL is just as desirable a location as any if winning were of importance, and the fact that Army didn’t get it done leads me to think it’s more likely that he didn’t want to rather than couldn’t get it done. 100% pure speculation on my part though.

Maybe McDonagh likes Nashville because of the lack of taxes.

The Blues would have needed to send back more salary in that deal - something TB obviously valued.

Just like other teams who think they could have beaten what the Blues paid for Buchnevich, there's another party involved with their own priorities.

Also, Krug/Faulk/Parayko is solid. Not that it couldn't improve, but the depth is a more obvious problem to me.

I'm not surprised about McDonagh waiving for Nashville. It's a fun city and a fairly popular destination these days. They also have some good d-men he'll be playing with so he won't have to do the heavy lifting himself.

Do I think they're a Cup contender? No, but he just won back-to-back Cups so he's probably content just being on a competitive team that can make the playoffs.

not TOO awfully wierd if ya think about it.. Nashville has the potential to be a competitive team, especially if they re-sign Forsberg
and take in account the tax situation..
Forsberg to Blues? All in on offense?

Perron + Bozak + depth = Forsberg

Forsberg - Thomas - Kyrou
Buchnevich - O'Reilly - Tarasenko
Barbashev - Schenn - Saad

I know im dreaming but so much scoring.

I think you have subtract at least Barby away if you were to sign Forsberg. What AAV are we talking about here,
7.5M, 8M?

Our offense was plenty potent last season. You have to fix the defense moving forward if you want any of the forwards to have the puck in the neutral and O zone.

if that's what he'd take I'm sure NAS would have signed him by now, don't ya think?
For sure less than 8M. What if Forsberg is trying to pry more at NAS and could settle for less at another team that he sees with higher chance to contend for the cup?

LeBrun wrote today on the Athletic that Poile is at the lower eights, and naturally Forsberg at the higher eights.
Could come down to half a million.

Why would he take less than $8mm for 7 years somewhere else when Nash is offering more than $8mm for 8 years? Makes no sense. And Nash is generally considered desired place to play around the league, to boot.

I can't see him taking much less than Josi, given that's signed a while ago now. Not a realistic target if we are looking at next year's space.

I would also be very surprised if Perron takes anything less than 5.5 X 4 or 6 X 3. We will probably need to move Barbie for futures to have a chance of fitting everyone under the cap next season, if we are to sign a decent LHD (whether keeping Leddy or signing someone else).

We need to take a deep breath before paying Perron these numbers. Can make it work this year but bigger issue is following year. You sign Perron to that contract and add top pairing D, letting Tank walk isn't likely to be enough to get RT and JK signed. You need to deal someone else or let ROR walk.
