If Perron and Leddy both sign for ~$5M/yr and you keep Tarasenko and dump Scandella, you still have to shed a ~$2.25M contract (Barbashev) and replace with ~ league minimum.
That's workable, but I don't think The Blues can ask Perron to take only $5 million. That's pretty much an insult after the discount he took last contract, and how well he's played. $5.5 to $5.7 is probably the least he should get. Maybe $4.7 for Leddy. The latter most likely would be able to get more, but mostly from teams with less chance to make a Cup Run. I think after suffering with dumpster Detroit, he might give a discount to stay with The Blues. And his type of play will allow him to age slowly, with less wear-and-tear. So offering him more years will get the per year cost down a bit, too. I hope they can keep all 3.

Armstrong is going to have work his magic this summer to stay cap compliant and fit all the right pieces of the puzzle together.

Ok.. we now have an idea of what we may be able to get for Vladi. He is 4 years older than Fiala with a year left and I do not think his AAV will be as high o re sign. Would love a good young LHD and a late 1St? To much, too little?

I had the same thought. Hoping the Blues can get a package similar to what Minnesota got for Fiala assuming VT still would prefer a trade.

Apples and oranges. He’s 4.5 years younger, entering his prime, not leaving it, an RFA, and had a deal negotiated before the trade. Why would Tarasenko sign an extension when he’s a UFA next year? You also couldn’t do a trade and sign until after the draft. And I fail to see how that exact trade would make us better next season. Next season is our best opportunity to win the Cup.

Reports of McDonagh being available. Not sure how I feel about the fit, but the more top 4 quality LD on the market, the better.

4 years left at 6.75M. Just turned 33 this month. Don't think Lightning would retain for that long as it defeats most of the purpose for moving him. Think Blues have to pass on McDonagh.
Yeah, I added a sentence. I don't think it's a great fit, but we will benefit from another top 4 LD on the market because it'll take another buy out of the race for one of our more ideal targets.

I think McDonough would be a fantastic fit for 2 years. His cap hit is the bigger issue. But having

McDonough-Colt
Krug-Faulk

Or
McDonough-Faulk
Krug-Colt

Would make the back end much stronger than Mikkola or Scandella. But, I'd still rather someone younger.

McDonaugh would be awesome and a perfect fit for our top 4. He’s tremendous defensively.

There’s definitely some long term risk and we’d have to find a taker for Scandella. However, next year could be our year if you think Colorado could have a Cup hangover. Might as well load up for next season.

Yeah that's an interesting one. Kinda surprised TB is going that route.

I don't like 4 years remaining on his contract, but he's a really good player. He absolutely makes us a legitimate Cup contender next season more than any other available player.

I don't think it will happen but I'm sure Armstrong will look into it.

Tampa has to get out of the bad cap situation they are in.

77.6 million in salary. Only 17 players signed. Palat, Paul, & Nash FA. Probably want to keep Palat and he will cost a good chunk of change. 11 forwards & 6 dmans with McDonagh

I know the reason why. I just would be moving on from other players instead (Killorn, Palat) if I was them, but we'll see how it works out.

I don't think I'd be too worried about the final two years of McDonagh's deal. A lot of the smart and technically sound defensemen age pretty well. We were happy to roster Bouwmeester at a similar age. On our team he might be the #1 defensemen but he still wouldn't be asked to do too much since we have a lot of strong players around him.

The other benefit compared to acquiring someone like Chychrun is the asking price should be a lot more affordable. Not only is he older on a more expensive contract, he has a full no-trade clause. The Blues should be one of the prime destinations for a player like him and Tampa Bay will have little leverage to ask for much more than salary relief.

Granted the Blues don't have a ton of cap flexibility either, but there are probably ways to make it work.

I also like the idea of upgrading the D without moving Perunovich. I know a lot of people don't want him in the same lineup with Krug but I really think he's got a lot more to show us on the ice.

Good point @oPlaiD. As we saw last year, even if we're only holding on to Perunovich to build up his value for a trade at a later date, it's smart asset management to not give up on him now.

I think in becoming less and less worried about the final two years of his contract. I truly think he'll be a solid top 4 defenseman for the next 4 years. Combined with the sizable cap increases in years 3 and 4.

My biggest issue would be paying a first for someone over 28 years old.

Well Tampa signed Paul to 7 years 22 mill extension.

They have to make some moves now.

If you could get a 3rd team involved and maybe eat a little of McDonagh salary, I would do it.

I could see him in Detroit to be honest. Close to home, familiarity with Yzerman, Detroit has need and cap space. Good partner for Seider.

Good points on McDonagh. I would probably be on board with him, but I am a bit nervous having $25 million+ tied up in our top 4 d-men. It would all but guarantee one, if not two of Perron, Tarasenko and ROR are gone after next year. I'm not sure I see Army going for a $6 million+ guy but if a guy like McDonagh is available you have to at least call and check in.

I could go both ways on Perunovich and a lot of it depends on who the 4th top 4 d-man ends up being. If someone offers a good trade and wants Peru included, I'm probably more willing to move him than either Neighbours or Bolduc. But if we acquire a more d-first guy then I would keep Peru around and let him rotate with Mikkola as the 3LD next year. He could end up being a partner for Parayko if he can improve his overall game. Having 2 offense-first d-men in the lineup would be fine, but 3 is probably too many.
