I want no part of McDonagh. I thought the consensus was that the Blues need a strong PMD to play on the top pairing. 4 more years at 6.75m for a guy who's going to be turning 37 when the contract ends and has been trending downwards for years sounds good to you guys?

Not to mention he's played in the finals 3 consecutive seasons. That's a ton of hockey and tax on the body. I don't see him aging well at all.

Tampa fans are Barbie, Mikkola, and a 3rd or Barbie, Mikkola, and swapping firsts.

Honestly wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we can find a way to keep our first round pick, would need to find a way to move Scandella tho. We'd also need to find a cheap 3rd pair LHD as well.

Yeah, those are realistic deals.

If we could just find a third team to eat 1.5M, that would be perfect

Tampa is in a tight spot so why are we giving quality assets in return for an aging def. being paid top dollar? Now if you want to send Marco their way & they are saving over 3 mil cap I would consider that deal.

But to give Barbie who could probably get you a late 1st, Miko & a 3rd & then still trying to unload Marco that is poor management of assets.

More I think about it, I'm on board for McD. He would be partner Parayko been missing since JayBo and he's better now than JayBo was in our Cup run. And he is smart and skates well so while he may not be worth contract last year or 2 of deal, he should still be solid part of D core. Next year is maybe our best chance (before we need to give Kyrou and Thomas big raises) and he is likely the best available D. Sure others are younger and may well be better in 2-3 years, but McD is perfect fit for this team right now. I'm good to ship Barbie and Miko to TB for him. We can send Marco elsewhere for mid-round pick. Still may have to skimp elsewhere or shed a bit more salary to sign Perron (or give DP extra years to keep AAV down), but for adding top pairing D is worth it.

I’m down to acquire McDonagh if it’s not crazy expensive. He has a NTC and can pick where he wants to go so that should lower the cost. We would also have to dump Scandella and I’m not sure how many teams would want him either

McDonagh is a lot of what we need, even at his age. He's not ancient, only about 6 months older than Petro. He's also a significantly better defenseman today than Mikkola will likely ever be. If we can get that upgrade for a bottom 6 player (which we have replacements for) and a 3rd, yeah absolutely do it. My only concern is the salary in his 3rd year is pretty high. I think his first 2 years here, he'll be fine. But the 3rd season, he'll be 35. The last season his salary is low and probably an easy dump. Our forward depth and his high stock after a good offensive year makes Barbie an easy sell-high. At this point last off-season, Barbashev and Mikkola for a healthy McD would have been a no-brainer. Still is, IMO.

Scandella is probably a non-starter for them.

I think McDonagh would look good here but I'm worried about the last 2 years of the contract. If we trade for him we are going for it the next year or 2. We also won't have enough money for all of Perron, Tarasenko, ROR, Thomas, and Kyrou unless we somehow convince a Krug, Schenn, Saad to waive their NTC.

I think Scandella will be dealt in an isolated transaction, i.e., not included in any other deals. Seems easier.

Other GMs aren’t looking to do us any favors unless the sweetener is too tasty.

I might be wrong, but it is probable that we will not be able to unload Scandella until closer to camp when rosters have taken a clearer shape. I hope this is not the case and it may be easier than I think it is.

The last two years don't worry me nearly as much. Those two years will be the years that there will be two very sizable cap increases.

Also what are we thinking Perron will sign for? 4 Million, 5 Million, less than that? I did some math and if we trade Barbashev+Mikkola for McDonagh, trade Scandella, call Neighbors up, sign Perron for 4 Million and Perunovich comes in at 925K we around 2.8 million to sign a 13th forward, a 7th defensemen, and a backup goalie. If Perron comes in any higher we have to run a 21/22 man roster. It'll be tight

I don't think Tank re-signs here regardless.

We still have important future re-signings to go and long-term deals on the books. It's not like we're gonna have a surplus of empty cap space. We just won't be right up against it.

From EF: “This is a team to watch. Ryan McDonagh screams St. Louis and the Blues want a top-four defenceman. I think GM Doug Armstrong has a few different ideas on how to make it work, but it might take multiple moves. This could also affect their ability to keep David Perron, which the Blues want to do. Some questions: do they feel they can have both Torey Krug and Scott Perunovich on the blueline?”

So my question is, could we trade for McD, sign Leddy, deal Marco, and deal Krug? I like Krug and this isn’t a crap on Krug post, but if we couid swing all that should balance out cap wise and would be interesting blue line..

I doubt we move Krug but if so what teams would want him and how many teams would Krug entertain?
