Nathan Todd did score one in the final minute to cut it to 3-2 with Chrona pulled, but there wasn't much to get hyped about after, as the Cuda didn't muster any other chances. 3-2 Bakersfield is your final. Condors actually had two goals disallowed on account of goaltender interference, too, though both seemed to be deserved.

Special teams sinks the Cuda today, as we give up two power play goals and then allow a SHG on top of it, and we gift two points to the team that's likely going to start pulling away with 7th place. Not that it's worth thinking about the playoffs until we start winning games.

Cuda were missing about half a team's worth of forwards, but I'm not really in the mood to make excuses for this bunch. 5 on 5, we did well today. Chrona had a good game. But, we always find a way to take the L.

Rematch tonight, this one @ Bakersfield. This also kicks off a road trip for the Cuda, 5 road games over the next 8 days. Condors tonight, then @ Charlotte Tues/Wed, then Colorado Sat/Sun.

Sounds like Chrona is starting again, in back to back nights. Only lineup change is Pulli in for Guryev.

It's all Cuda for the first five minutes, and then a Condors shot gets blocked right onto the stick of Alex Peters, who just stuffs it into the net to make it 1-0 Condors. Love it.

Marek takes a penalty, Condors again score on their first power play of the night for the second straight game to make it 2-0. The start was promising, now we're already in a tough spot.

And, that's the end of the first. Deflating period.

Ben Gleason blasts one in towards the end of the second period to put Bakersfield up 3-0, the Cuda are currently halfway through a 4-minute power play that they've done very little with.

Jack Campbell hasn't had a great year in the AHL, but naturally tonight, and in his previous game against us on 12/31, he's become a brick wall. 20 saves so far.

I am going to reach for a couple positives, Mukhamadullin is having a great game, doing well at jumping up into the play. And this is the best I've seen Robins look since he returned from injury.

Broberg takes a puck over glass penalty, we pull Chrona for the 6 on 4, and just cannot get anything through. So, once again, 3-2 Condors is your final and the Barracuda have lost four straight. Jack Campbell saves 34 of 36.

Barracuda are now conclusively in last place. I don't know how many other ways I can say that it is depressing we're this bad. I feel like the Barracuda Twitter admin has even given up at this stage.

Gushchin gets one on the PP early in the third to bring it to 3-1, good cross-crease pass from Cardwell.

I guess this has just been changed to Kyle Rau's goal well after the fact, which is a little weird since Rau doesn't seem to react as if he tipped it or anything. That is his first goal for the Cuda and 300th career AHL point.

Barracuda @ Charlotte at 4 pm today, an ultra-rare eastern time zone game for us. Unless I'm missing one, I think our last one of those was in 2019 (at Grand Rapids)

Gannon Laroque is making his first appearance of the season in this one, replacing Pulli. The other lineup change is Cassels returning, Fossier sits.

However, Charlotte has already scored twice, we're down 2-0 just over two minutes in. So that's fun. Makiniemi is being pulled for Chrona.

--

Tristan Robins cuts the lead in half with his first of the season. 2-1 Charlotte. We're still only three minutes in.

Laroque with a high sticking penalty, and Charlotte scores off a deflection on the ensuing PP to make it 3-1 towards the end of the first.

That's the end of the period, I hadn't even gotten settled in and we were already down by two. Chrona calmed things down for a bit before the third goal. Cuda are on a power play to start the second, but it looked out of sorts in the time we've had on it so far.

It's easy to point at Makiniemi since he let in a couple savable ones right at the beginning, but Cuda looked second best for most of that period.

You know, Laroque's not looking half bad, movement-wise. He started the game with Simek, but the defensive pairings got shuffled midway through the first and now he's with Mukhamadullin.

Simek takes a tripping minor and the Checkers score on the power play. I swear, this has to be the third or fourth time Simek has gotten called for tripping this season without actually tripping the guy. Really baffling. 4-2 Charlotte.

--

Just over two minutes later, Ethan Cardwell makes it a one-goal game once again. 4-3 Charlotte. Cuda at least aren't going away in this one.

Tie game!

Kaspick cuts off the goalie as he goes behind the net to play the puck and centers it for Lindblom, who puts it into the empty net. 4-4. Cuda don't have a ton of shots this period, but they have made the most of their chances.

That's your score at the end of the second period, tempers flared up a bit finally at the buzzer.

If Laroque is healthy enough to keep playing regularly, these pairings are working out pretty well. They should keep them:

Mukhamadullin-Laroque
Simek-Gawanke
Knyzhov-Frisch

I've got to give them a bunch of credit for getting back into this game. It would've been easy to just fold after that awful start.

Five minutes left in the third. Huge save by Chrona to keep this one tied.

Cuda aren't getting much going this period, but haven't given up a ton of chances up until right now.

We're headed to OT.

And, Charlotte wins it there. That's deflating.

---

(Best highlight video I could find. That's... some kind of accompanying music.)

Well, I've still got to hand it to the Cuda to even get a point out of that one after giving up two goals in the first couple minutes, but you'd still like to see a better ending than that. Some confusion in OT with Knyzhov pressuring and Cardwell going too deep led to the goal. Barracuda have still yet to win in the OT period itself, taking five OT losses so far. So, 3 on 3, not a strength.

I'm curious who starts in goal tomorrow. Seems clear that Chrona is our #1, but Makiniemi played just 2:15 in this game.
