Looks like Simek is back, Guryev comes out.

Coe in as well, Bordeleau (?) not listed. Bordeleau has been cold, only one assist in his last five games, but that's still a surprise. (Edit: Nollenberger says Bordeleau is banged up, won't play this weekend)

Reign make it 1-0 on a pinball goal on the power play. Didn't like the call, either.

Cuda seem to be prioritizing getting the puck out of their defensive zone above all else in this game, but they aren't turning it into offense. Ontario's good at clogging the lanes and they're beating us to the puck after it's been dumped out.

2-0 Reign on a shorthanded goal, I really hate watching Ontario play. I've probably mentioned that. Bracing for a full third period of soft dumps to center ice.

Game mercifully ends, still at 2-0. I continue to dream of that one time earlier in the season we were able to win two consecutive games, and wonder if we'll ever reach those lofty heights again. I struggle to think of a single big chance the Barracuda had tonight. I'll see if they bother with a highlight video, because I don't think anything actually happened other than the two goals above.

This is the first of three straight games against Ontario (yay). We play @ Ontario again tomorrow night, and then Tuesday we have them at home. Random transaction I saw while the game was going, Ontario signed Aaron Dell to a PTO. So we might be facing him pretty soon.

Studnicka in, on the first line with Gushchin and Cardwell.

Trying to pick up the lines, but the audio keeps cutting in and out. Sounds like new defensive pairs (Mukhamadullin-Frisch was mentioned). I think Coe is coming out of the lineup with Studnicka in.

Gawanke is out.

There we go:

Well Ontario scores on their first shot of the game, 42 seconds in. 1-0.

(They're running some sort of Harry Potter night in Ontario)

2-0 Ontario.

To give you an idea, the Barracuda have two shots on goal thus far, with four minutes to go in the first period. They're just not executing anything properly.

---

End of the first. 3 total shots on goal for the Cuda. There's nowhere to go but up I guess, but if the first period is an indication of how this game's going to be played, this one is already over.

Barracuda have been shut out three times this season. Two of those are vs. Ontario.

Kinda tuned this game out when the Reign made it 3-0 in the 2nd, and then turned it off altogether when they made it 4-1 midway through the third. First time I've done that this season.

Serves me right. Cuda score three times in the final ten minutes of the third (Mukhamadullin, and two from Sabourin). We're in OT.

---

And, Cuda get crossed up in OT, allowing Fagemo to complete a hat trick. 5-4 OT loss for the Cuda, they get a point out of what seemed like was going to be a cakewalk for the Reign. We'll face them again Tuesday.

This breaks the slightly annoying streak we had going after the only time we won two consecutive games this season (On Dec 15/16). After that: L, W, L, W, L, W. And now two losses. Least we got the point tonight.

Something I've been wondering about as of late is that Nollenberger has referenced in pregames, a couple times, that we are two points behind Bakersfield for the 8 seed in the playoffs. Except as far as I'm aware, there is no 8 seed in the playoffs. I'm pretty sure 7 teams make it out of the Pacific, and haven't heard anyone other than him say otherwise. And according to this:

Yeah, only 7 get in.

Seriously, it's January and this team does not seem like they're in any hurry to get things going. We're not actually that far behind Colorado (six points) for the seven seed, but at some point the team has to, well, put some wins together.

Couple forwards that have been in and out of the lineup lately that I'm losing hope for. One's Brandon Coe. Granted, I had very little hope for Coe to begin with this season, but he started strong. He's gone back to being very underwhelming and at times invisible, hence the healthy scratches.

The other's Wiesblatt. I've always said he's going to have to make the NHL as a fourth line energy guy. Lately he's cut back on the physicality. But he hasn't had an uptick in offense, so this has basically just made him an unremarkable AHL bottom six winger. Makes me miss Raska, who made his Minnesota Wild debut tonight, just btw.

Aggravating to be in this position. The Barracuda's problem, by the way, is letting goals in. We have no issues scoring them. Feels like we've had an uptick in penalties lately, which isn't helping.

Who would have been a better pick than Wiesblatt? He's obviously disappointing, but it seems like it was a weak draft...it was the COVID year so I don't remember who was available after him...
