Oiler fans when McDavid wins: Yay! He’s the best, we’re the best!

Oiler fans when he doesn’t: Pfft, I don’t place much stock in the awards anyways!

If you think it’s bad now, wait until 7/1/2026 and he’s out of there faster than he skates when he backchecks.

And then they’ll act like they were never into him at all.

He stays in Edmonton, so he probably knew Matthews is going to win both in advance.

Yeah, doubt he knew in advance.

it probably had more to do with him caught basically cheating on his long-term girlfriend that he's living with. Maybe she refused to go with him, which would raise suspicion or he didn't want to be asked about the video so he decided to be 'busy' even if he won.

If anything, I think that video increases the likelihood McDavid leaves Edmonton in free agency because his girlfriend obviously doesn't trust him and his teammates (who were in on it) and might ask for him to go to a new team... maybe even back home.

The awards are OK but the hair and mustache are dynamite.

Forgot to say Congrats Auston! I don't think we'll remember these trophies as fans but the 60 goals is engraved. With hard work and good fortune, hopefully you'll join the legends!

I never knew the video thing was real. Saw a pic of that and I thought it was some sort of memes.

Yeah, it was real. He was with Nurse and Kassian (and maybe others?). Kassian is also married with a kid.

People claim it was taken in Dallas? (I believe) after the playoffs.

Oh snap, his reaction to hearing hey Connor, that has guilt written ALL over it.

Dude had a few by the way he's walking, thinking he's a millionaire, invincible, rookie kid mistake, but i bet money that dude was preparing to cheat there.

Yeah mods insta locked it on the mains for some reason, meanwhile the Matthews mooning a security guard thread was open for like 3 years. Didn't realize his teammates were there in the video too lol not a good look.

I know i might get a bit of flack for this but the dude looked a bit unhinged lmao.

Happy for him though, hopefully many more to come.
He reminds me of the 1st beaver boss in Donkey Kong Country, back in the day on my super nintendo. Good times.

Yeah, he was obviously drunk. He probably thought Dallas Texas, they're a football town.. they won't recognize NHL players.

But that's the thing - if his GF forces him to move, Toronto is the best place because she knows there's no where in the entire city that McDavid can go without getting recognized. Her and McDavid are also both from Toronto/the GTA.

I have no idea why he thought he could get away with it so broadly in public.

Good for Matthews. Wasn't really paying attention to the awards until seeing the news floating around. Can't really care about regular season awards at this point. Or at least can't care about them when the team still needs to accomplish much more than they have.

But it's still a really nice moment for him individually. More trophies for the trophy case. And no question he's a crazy good player. Nice to see him get that recognition with a big night. I may not be overly moved by it, but it's still a positive thing.
They say Canada has a housing crisis but I don't think it's a big deal since Torontonians can just live in the heads of Albertans rent free.
It is always an awkward thing how discussions oddly turn to mud-slinging between different parts of the countries. Frankly seems like the whole thing goes both ways. Seems like plenty of disgruntled envy gets fired back and forth. Haven't taken a look at the Oilers threads on these awards. But much like the McDavid cheating thing, I'm sure Matthews' run-in with law enforcement is probably being mocked there.

All the more of a shame since fans of both teams live in both provinces.

"I always try to set goals and just try to be the best that I can be," Matthews said. "But I think I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a little bit of, I guess, angst wishing you were still playing, obviously, right now. Especially being back here."
"Of course, I've been watching," Matthews said. "It's tough to say. I've been watching for so long. Six, seven years now of watching at this time of year. So I think everybody knows, understands and realizes how hard it is. You need a lot of things to go your way and certain things."

"We played a really good team in Tampa and there's a reason that they're back here in the Stanley Cup Final for the third straight year. So I think these are all just things that we can, I suppose, learn from."
"It's nice. I can't lie," Matthews said. "It feels really good. It's special to have my family here with me. A lot of great players in that room, a lot of really deserving guys. Definitely pretty special."
"I think it's a tremendous honor to wear the blue and white and represent the city of Toronto and wear the Maple Leaf every night," he said. "The guys that have come before us and just the history that's embarked on this organization, it means a lot. So anytime you get your name mentioned in history in an organization like that, it's definitely pretty special and something I don't take for granted."

I can't imagine anyone would be surprised at that.
But is it more respect than what they received on the handshake line from Tampa?
Sure, this one was league wide.

My man Matthews needs to work some more present tense into all that Toronto love.
There are 2 verbs in the present perfect and three verbs in the present simple.

You could make a pretty strong case that Marner was the best winger in the league this year.

The debate is over between Edmonton and Toronto fans, Matthews is the greatest player in the world... at least he is until next season when that freak in Edmonton scores 300 points ;)

Turn AM mvp thread into McDavid poop. You should ashamed. F...k McDavid. The Kesfs have THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE! Celebrate.

🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙃🙃🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Now onto a cup victory.....

He's the best Leaf I've ever seen. Guy is truly unbelievable. Incredible season. Amazing to get both Hart & Lindsay.

We're very lucky to get to watch him all the time.

name a better RW last year

All thats left for Matthews now is the evolution into a Selke candidate.. He's insane.
Not sure that I can, he's well deserving of being an All Star. Just when I heard it I was a bit surprised.
I thought someone may have a better candidate.
