Pretty cool he is only the 3rd Leaf to win the award and 1st since Ted Kennedy in 1955 to win it, back when we were a respectable team. Hopefully he can bring us back there before he leaves because as good of a MVP trophy is, its not the trophy we all want.

I admit I don't really watch award shows but the timing of this awards show couldn't be worse. Between games 3 and 4 of the SCF? Makes the awards seem trite and meaningless. As I said, I don't really watch the Awards show but I cant recall it ever being shoehorned in while the finals are being played. If you wanted to downplay showcasing your best players, this would be an effective way to do that.

I am not sure being a Leafs legend is something that overly appeals to Auston. Purely an assumption on my part, he just always seems to have a monotone like expression when talking about the history and prestige of the franchise. Then again, he seems that way about everything.

It's hard to speculate what Auston will do, but I will be gutted if he leaves. I will still cheer for him individually regardless of what happens, but I will be devastated.

He is a once in a generation talent, and in my opinion the greatest Leaf of all time.

IMO he's one of the clear best 2 players in the game (forwards anyway not including defensemen and goalies because that's too difficult).

I've been watching MacKinnon and thinking no way I trade Matthews for this guy. Not a chance.

I watch Kucherov, and he has world class skill, but takes a lot of nights off, and is as soft as Leafs fans pretend Nylander is. Watch Nylander crash the net and then watch this guy.

Draisaitl has some great stats but just never passes the eye test for me.

If you can't sign him next July 1st then you gotta move him for the best package you can get. Nords won the Lindros deal. We may or may not win a Matthews trade but you should get some solid pieces/picks for him.

Its due to the pandemic. Theyve been playing catch up for the past 2 years to get back to their regular schedule. (which should happen for next season if nothing major gets in the way)

Coming from a Dubas "fanboy" myself, I would have to agree with this. It was always a mistake only getting him in for 5 years. One that if he does in fact leave after this contract will be the biggest mistake in Dubas' tenure.

It's hard to believe, but realistically this could be the last season Auston has in blue and white. I don't even want to think about it to be honest. But I agree whole heartedly, if he is not willing to talk extension in the summer of 2023 he needs to be moved. We cannot walk away with nothing for the best player to ever wear the blue and white

I think it's also foolish to not consider it a possibility. Auston and his team negotiated his current contract with intent. Either to leverage a pending departure, or to actually depart. Until an extension is signed both still remain a very real possibility.
