I don’t follow. Who are the dumb Leaf fans not appreciating him? Seems like everyone is.
yummy salt!!I and every Oilers fans I know will always trade regular season McTrophy's for deep playoff runs like we did this year.
No offense but getting these awards is equivalent to a pity f*** and no one is more aware of that than Oilers fans.
Matthews had a great regular season. Congrats.
Edit: Apologies. I clicked a link from the main hfboards without looking. I thought this was the mains. Please delete.
Take note he also finished 10th for Selke.IMO he's one of the clear best 2 players in the game (forwards anyway not including defensemen and goalies because that's too difficult).
I've been watching MacKinnon and thinking no way I trade Matthews for this guy. Not a chance.
I watch Kucherov, and he has world class skill, but takes a lot of nights off, and is as soft as Leafs fans pretend Nylander is. Watch Nylander crash the net and then watch this guy.
Draisaitl has some great stats but just never passes the eye test for me.
While I agree with the premise, I would debate the "deep". Incredibly weak conference with a sweep.I and every Oilers fans I know will always trade regular season McTrophy's for deep playoff runs like we did this year.

Yup.
Coming from a Dubas "fanboy" myself, I would have to agree with this. It was always a mistake only getting him in for 5 years. One that if he does in fact leave after this contract will be the biggest mistake in Dubas' tenure.
It's hard to believe, but realistically this could be the last season Auston has in blue and white. I don't even want to think about it to be honest. But I agree whole heartedly, if he is not willing to talk extension in the summer of 2023 he needs to be moved. We cannot walk away with nothing for the best player to ever wear the blue and white
I think it's also foolish to not consider it a possibility. Auston and his team negotiated his current contract with intent. Either to leverage a pending departure, or to actually depart. Until an extension is signed both still remain a very real possibility.
You just knew when this moment happened he was going to be special.
Spot on !!
Drafting Matthews was the best thing that has happened to the Leafs, and his contract and potential departure letting the leagues Hart MVP walk potentially for nothing, because the organization didn't lock up their best asset for the full 8 years will be the BIGGEST mistake in the history of the franchise,
Winning the Hart as league MVP is going to cost the Leafs one way or another now, Either his next contract will now hit new record setting heights and CH% to re-sign, or he will leave and have no shortage of top UFA offers coming his way.
MIght be time for Matty to buzz the hair, the lighting is not doing him any favours.
Before he’s signed they have to move a piece or two to make room…..Spot on !!

The signing the John Tavares resulted Leafs not being able to afford to give Matthews the full 8 year deal, and could only afford 5 years, and now Leafs might have to potentially deal Nylander for futures as his contract ends the same time as Auston and will need his cap space to re-sign.Before he’s signed they have to move a piece or two to make room…..
yep. the guy might score 70 next season if he plays every game.Well-deserved. The best part..he hasn't even peaked.
*Byng (hasn't he been super close to that award as well)Calder
Rocket
Lindsay
Hart
Selke
Art Ross
Conn Smythe
Calder, 2x Rockets, Hart, Lindsay,1st All-Star Team. Practically became the best Leaf of all time tonight...
Agreed, but.....You could make a pretty strong case that Marner was the best winger in the league this year.
I’ll believe he re-signs with Toronto when I see it.The signing the John Tavares resulted Leafs not being able to afford to give Matthews the full 8 year deal, and could only afford 5 years, and now Leafs might have to deal Nylander for futures as his contract ends the same time as Auston and will need his cap space to re-sign.
Nylander out for pick and prospect on ELC recaptures @$6 mil and Matthews $11.6 + Willy's $5- 6 mil recaptured space = Matthews new 16-20% CH% new deal.
Winning Cups increases players costs, but also having the best player Hart winner on your roster still costs you cap space and money to re-sign even without playoff success.
Matthews has a top 3 NHL AAV contract NOW prior to winning any awards other than the Calder, just think what these awards are going to cost Leafs and then project that thought forward to Cup competitiveness window of the Leafs team, with even higher AAV contracts on the books and losing players off the roster to pay it.
Once Matthews re-ups shattering the glass ceiling on contracts in a Salary Cap World, Marner will be up the following year holding out his hands saying "now do me".
That's on the photographer, lighting is awfulMIght be time for Matty to buzz the hair, the lighting is not doing him any favours.
One time I saw a red balloon flying out of a storm drain and when I looked inside that man was staring back at me
