The senators continual bandaide approach at goal is paying off i see.

Korpisalo has never started more than 40 games in a single season, has quite the injury history, and in 6 seasons prior to this one had 1 average, 1 above average, and 4 below average sv% seasons.

Forsberg is a backup who performed like a starter for 1 season.

The results shouldnt suprise anyone. It is like seeing Buffalo and Edmonton struggle. Each team with known deficiencies at goal and none of which were addressed. If any of those teams had decent goaltending, theyd be in the playoff talks. Bandaids (Ottawa), wilful blindness (Edmonton), and hoping that a 21 year old rookie can bring your team (Buffalo) to the playoffs isnt a realistic plan.

The problem is I think its been said so many times that some GM's have actually started to believe this notion that you can get by with an average goalie. The problem is with most of those teams there is a reason they could get by with an ok goalie, and that's because the rest of the lineup was top notch in the league.

Most of the team losing because of below average goaltending have some pretty major holes somewhere else, so even an ok goalie isn't going to be good enough.

Ottawa is a bit of a strange one because they had built quite a good team and then it just imploded because of the Hoffman/Karlsson thing. Then it seems like they've struggled to actually commit to a rebuild and have made a bunch of baffling decisions for a rebuilding team. Their goaltending choices have been especially confusing (trading for Murray, trading Gustavsson for Talbot, signing Korpisalo long term). Couple that with inexplicably holding on to a bad coach and you get there current situation. The assets they got from trading their previous core have actually been good its the whole rest of the team building that has been the issue

Also the Debrincat trade...and then trading him. Trading for Chychrun and now it seeming like he might want out.

Really dont understand the chychrun trade for them. They already had 1 perpetually injured dman (Chabot). Chychrun got injured last season after the trade but has been healthy this season so far atleast but he doesnt want to be on bad teams. He made that clear in Arizona.

Watching the pregame for the Winter Classic and they had Marshawn Lynch on set. That did cracks me up. Not sure why the NHL doesn’t get him involved with promotions and game hype. He’s a part owner of the Kraken so he would definitely be interested in promoting the sport.

At a least as a player he hated doing media stuff but he is hilarious. Honestly forgot that the Winter Classic is even going on. Feel like it’s gone from
a big time event to only meaningful for the teams involved since there are so many outdoor games now.

You’re not alone in not knowing about the Winter Classic today. The NHL does a horrible job about promoting its own league. College football does a better job promoting some of the worst bowl games of the season than the NHL does of promoting what should be big attraction games.

Speaking of college bowl games, those games are terrible for the most part. With college free agency and big chunks of teams opting out of playing, bowl games have become meaningless exhibitions between random depth players. FBS needs to get rid of the bowl system. The goose is dead and stinks bad.

They are huge moneymakers for cities. That’s why they exist and will continue to exist.

Need to go to the same format as the FCS and use the bowl games as the lead up games.

They have always been meaningless exhibition games.

The big bowl games maybe. The lesser ones not so much. There was one earlier that barely drew 8000 fans. ESPN had to show a lot of closeup shots of the parents as the stands generally looked empty and covered with tarps.

With players skipping bowls because they are worried about injury, transferring to a different school, etc., there are more and more totally non-competitive games. That will catch up with the bowls in general and without the ability to draw fans, the bowl system will certainly lose revenue.

When there were more conferences, no conference championship games, no 4 team tournament, and an automatic bid system, the bowl games had more meaning. Appointing a champion may not have been totally satisfying, but there were usually a number of relevant bowl games that set the table for the two polls.

PS: With the expansion to a 12 team playoff format, I think you can put a fork in the bowl game system. It will wither away. I mean the players and coaches have already telegraphed a total lack of interest in these games themselves.

When you actually had to have a good season to get a bowl bid, not any team with a .500 record being guaranteed a slot, the bowl games were meaningful. And Kentucky, which rarely got bowl bids, used to take over the host town when they did get a spot. The 1977 Peach Bowl might as well been a UK home game.

But now, I do not know why any fans would bother going unless they want to go to the destination regardless and need the football game as an excuse.

I can't imagine what UK fans would have been beating down the door if they had ended up in the Dukes Mayo Bowl instead of the Gator this year.
