Doughty doesn't help the powerplay.

?

This year with Doughty: 4 games, 4-13 (31%). Doughty involved in 3 of the goals

This year without Doughty: 11 games, 6-44 (14%).

It seems this year he does, I mean, he's tied for 2nd in PP points and has only played 4 games. Not to mention he opens up space for others which is why the powerplay fell apart right when he went out.

Doughty has been a shinguard assassin on the powerplay his entire career. Remember the year he didn’t have a powerplay goal until like the second to last game of the season? I do. Just because the pp was a slightly less wet fart in a small sample size to start this year doesn’t make him the solution.

You are right that technically he “helps” the pp be slightly less putrid but I feel we need a better solution than that.

Yea I agree we need help back there, but more of an additional solution because we probably won't find a better one. I do think Drew gets a bad rap because we remember the bad plays he makes more than the good. Career-wise over 40% of his points have been on the PP, and he's also scored more PP goals than even strength.

Comparison: Drew has 11 fewer PP goals and 10 fewer PP assists than Brett Burns, who has played 204 more games than Drew. And Burns is damn good on the powerplay.

The thing is Burn consistently get his shot on net [ which leads to other chances], Doughty is lucky to get about 40 pct, that is if he opens his eyes when he shoots. The only guy on the team worse is Roy. I seriously don't think he got one on net in the last 10 games. He's the new "high and wide" guy out there. Not a single dman not named Doughty has a goal on the team...let that sink in.

This all needs to be put in context of how many PP goals defensemen actually get. Doughty has 66 career powerplay goals. That's good for 36th most by a defenseman in NHL history NHL Defensemen ‑ All-Time Power-Play Goals Leaders

Considering he's still got probably at least five more years left in his career, he'll likely take a good run at cracking the top 20. ALL TIME.

The guy also sits with 240 PP points, which is just six points outside the top 50 all-time for defensemen. Good chance he cracks the top 25 all-time there as well. He's certainly not holding the powerplay back.

I'll admit those stats are surprising. Still, doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off every time he gets his shot blocked or plays "who wants the puck the least" passing back and forth to Kopitar on the perimeter. :)

Doughty definitely improves the Kings' current dismal powerplay - the in season and career numbers and eye test both support that and it's not even close. Can't remember which year you are referencing, but he had 6 PP goals last year.

Doughty averages 6 goals and 15 assists per season on the powerplay. By comparison, just some random dmen I looked up:

Letang - 4 goals 17 assists
Visnovsky - 4 goals 18 assists
Lidstrom - 7 goals 24 assists
Mathieu Schneider - 6 goals 14 assists

It seems like not that long ago Phaneuf came into the league and was all the rage.

One quote I always remembered about Jack Johnson when he was still a prospect was: "He could have a Phaneuf-like impact in the NHL!"

Ironically, whoever said that ended up being right, but probably in a different way than they expected.

Pittsburge Pens being sold to Fenway Sports Group.

Pittsburgh Penguins Selling the Team - NHL Rumors - NHLTradeRumors.Me

The change in ownership is a huge surprise and could have lasting implications on the franchise. The team has a couple of career Penguins in Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang who are pending free agents and the new ownership group could put some pressure on management to proceed in a new direction.

Yeah Lemiuex did all that. Tanking for back to back generational players didn’t hurt either.

I hope Cliffy has something left. He deserves to go out on his own terms.

Marlies stint may even be a raise. No escrow in the AHL.

I've got a feeling Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider are both probably better than our top prospects.

Insane production from a 19 and 20 year old. All while still having a good +/- nonetheless.
