Quick's issues were primarily based around being overly aggressive. Coming out of the net too far, overplaying everything, going down too early.

A few simple tweaks to his game could make a huge difference. I think that's what we're seeing. It's annoying it didn't happened here.

Slip slidin’ away……

Edmonton should be a cautionary tale of everything wrong with a franchise. A smug owner with a disregard for the fans and whose arrogance is eclipsed by his ignorance. They keep scapegoating certain people instead of critically looking at their own internal processes. Amidst making it a miserable team to play for, they overcompensate by hiring their star player's agent as CEO and bring in his junior coach to be the head coach. And in doing all this, they just make it more of a miserable environment for the rest of the team.

You can see the style difference, it's night and day.

But it was also:

Gavrikov + Spence > Edler + Durzi
Quick getting too comfortable here and assuming the Kings would re-sign him
His current deployments - NSH, SEA, EDM, MIN, DET, CBJ, PIT. Only 1 team with a winning record that is tied for the 8th seed currently.

Yeah, he's playing differently, but more importantly, his fire is back. He wasn't going to regain that here based on everything we saw, and that's solely on JQ. It's just human nature to get comfy in a long-term situation. I'm elated that he's doing well and increasing his HOF likelihood, but I'm also not sure he's putting up those numbers here against the competition we've faced. And there is no way he would be playing here for $825K or even $1.5M.

I still think the Oilers can make the playoffs. Just like how they were unbeaten to end the season last year with like 14 games, don’t think that a team with caliber players like that needs too much. All they need is one big trade and that can be a momentum swing.
And yet if that was the Kings, you would have written them off 10 losses ago.

This is pure speculation.

And since we're speculating, I think it's the opposite. I speculate he's more comfortable now, which is why he's playing better. You can see it even in the way he's carrying himself off the ice.

It's hard to say whether the technical issues in his game should be blamed on him or our goaltending coaches.

When he went to Vegas last year, it was frequently discussed on their telecast how Sean Burke was working on his game.

Based on the remaining schedule (easiest in the league) LA could win the Division. Not that far back of Vegas or Van
Vegas 20gp, 14w 4L 2otl 30 points
Van 20gp, 13w 6L 1otl 27 points
LA 17gp (3 in hand) 11w 3L 3otl 25 points

Money Puck's power ranking for 11/23/23 (thanksgiving)
No 1 LA
No 19 Vegas
No 21 Vancouver

Check out Money Puck for other stats , it should put a smile on your face.

I wouldn't be that confident, this team has historically played down to the competition. But I will agree that the odds are in their favor.

Well yeah it's speculating, but he was playing like he didn't care here. Maybe it was a technique thing, but his body language screamed that he really wasn't into it. I think he is more comfy on the ice now, but I think he was too comfortable off the ice here. I also think there was a lot of pressure to perform here that he doesn't have now. Even the best can need a wake-up.

And continue to bring in old players to help run the place. Paul Coffee, really...what's he gonna do? Who's next Messier and Gretz?

You get about 30 regulation losses before your playoff spot is in question. 22% of the way through the season, the Oilers have already used up 40% of those available losses. Starting Dec 1st, they can afford only about 3 L's per month. Maybe 4 here and there. That's assuming they get through their next 4 games without another one.

If Edm can get back on track, the one thing in their favor would be that, while they have 6 teams ahead of them for the last spot, none of those 6 are very good. They're all under .500 in regulation.

He's fulfilling the perfect backup role so far and having a team that shot blocks and controls possession always helps Quick.
