If Nelson walks and Lindgren is willing to take ~$2.5m x 2 years or thereabouts then it's probably worth considering. It'll be hard to fit him in though if Nelson stays.

He can be traded to CBJ, and Anaheim though. They need bodies for their prison camps.

I didn't mean to suggest that signing Lindgren should be a priority over Nelson. I said "IF" Nelson walks (after making every attempt to re-sign him) THEN you can consider if there's any space for Lindgren.

Re-signing Lindgren is obviously a much lower priority than Nelson, and Drouin.

I'm surprised they could waive him if he was injured, I thought there was a rule against that. I recall having to keep Gilbert and some other AHL plug on the NHL roster a year or two ago for months because they got hurt and couldn't be sent back down until they were cleared to play again.

They assigned him to the AHL, he played one game on Feb 28, and tore his ACL during that game. He has a one-way contract, so there's no hit for him financially

Necas is definitely more noticeable throughout games.

He doesn’t have the gift Moose does to just create goals out of thin air though.

We also need to see what Necas does in the playoffs. It’s been a good trade overall. The Avs seem no worse off and are certainly a much deeper team than they were to start the year.

But I do not believe that looking purely at production is the way to look at it? He wasn't brought in to be Mikko Rantanen. He was brought in to be Martin Necas.

But I do not believe that looking purely at production is the way to look at it? He wasn't brought in to be Mikko Rantanen. He was brought in to be Martin Necas.

Necas moves his feet and makes the offense much more dynamically active.

I'm going to assume that Landeskog is coming back for the playoffs based on his interview where he basically said as much without saying it. He's skating 3-4 times a week which is obviously not something he'd been doing if he wasn't trying to gear up to play soon.

With that said the forward lineup including him is ridiculously deep. Whether he slots in on the first, second, or third line he'll be a huge addition.

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Necas
Drouin - Nelson - Nichushkin
Colton - Coyle - Lehkonen
Kelly - Drury - O'Connor
Kiviranta, Wood, Vesey, Ivan

That group is as complete as I've ever seen it, ticking all the boxes you could possibly want, even down to intangibles like having multiple LHS and RHS faceoff guys for both the PP and PK. Size, grit, speed, shooters passers, net front presence, etc etc.

To top that off it's a group of forwards that's 15-16 guys deep, meaning that they can easily absorb injuries and have the flexibility to rotate down the stretch to keep guys fresh and hungry. Bottom 6 forwards have to elevate their game to even continue to make the lineup. And there's guys on the 3rd line who wouldn't look out of place in the top 6.

Dare I say this forward group is arguably stronger and deeper than its 2022 counterpart, perhaps depending most on how Necas does in the playoffs compared to Rantanen.

Ideally we'd have seen an addition to push Manson down one spot, but if this group can stay healthy it has a really nice blend of size and puck moving. I like the addition of Lindgren and think he's exactly the style of Dman that was needed, both for the PK as well as at 5v5 paired with Malinski.

Going from Byram/EJ/JJ to Lindgren/Malinski/EJ is a downgrade overall and definitely lacks the upside that Byram brought, but Lindgren should be enough of a stabilizing presence in his role to make the D group almost as deep as in 2022.

It remains to be seen how Blackwood handles the playoffs but doing better than Georgiev and Kuemper shouldn't be too difficult a bar to clear.

I'd take Francouz over Wedgewood, but Wedgewood is a fine backup. A 3rd goalie would have been nice, but really if we're down to our third goalie it's probably game over anyways.
