If I was to go back to the Eichel to LA rumors… the amount of terrible takes and character assassination that kept occurring here was mind blowing. I couldn’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want a guy like that. It’s so rare when players like him hit the market. People acting like his neck was completely severed and that his entire plan was a shaman healing it.In 2 decades posting on this board, I think the general attitude which was strongly against trading for Eichel was one of the most surprising things I can remember. He was exactly what this team needed in both the short and long term and so many people were against it.
He is a spectacular player that would have given the Kings the thing they need most to win another SC (someone better than 11 and 8) now and still been able to be a 1C for the life of his contract.
The Kings had (at the time) a deep and highly regarded prospect/u-23 player pool and a need for a 1C, instead the Kings hoard their youth, which takes a step down and Eichel is traded to a division rival and wins the Cup in his first full year there.
Did it ever come out what the ask was from the Kings? If I was to go back to the Eichel to LA rumors… the amount of terrible takes and character assassination that kept occurring here was mind blowing. Tuch, Krebs, 1st, 2nd, 3rd at the time for the Kings would have been something like Kempe,Turcotte, 1st, 2nd, 3rd?
They just gave up those exact picks to get and re sign a middle pairing dman in Gavrikov.

Also even if LA had Eichel it doesnt mean they win. The Kings still are undersized especially on defense, and dont have over the cap depth up front like Vegas has.If LA got Eichel Fiala likely would not be king due to needing cap. So you can reuturn Faber and the first to LA, but i'm sure Blake would have moved those somewhere since.
I was on the no side of things as I thought the rumored ask was too high, but do not remember what it was. Said to my wife last night, that may have been foolish.
And $10m in cap space. Which Vegas couldn't afford either, unless some guys sit out at the right time.
The Kings had the assists to make that trade, Blake didn't have the balls to pull the trigger on it.Did it ever come out what the ask was from the Kings?

Not sure I agree with this. I think he has grown but he would have in LA as wellMartinez has been such a better defensemen in Vegas than he was in LA.
Further to the shot blocking of Martinez & McNabb... Also LDs, but with the Kings abruptly ending rebuild #9 was it really all that necessary to jettison *Martinez?
Also, to later trade Forbort 6 days later for a 4th rounder- the guy they chose to protect over exposing McNabb is just __________
it's now proven you can keep both of those guys and still win a Stanley Cup
sorry, I just can't resist- Mike Amadio was traded for Wolanin, aka the LD replacement for all other LDs
*they would later use the Martinez picks to trade for Lias Anderson and trade the other pick to pick Pinelli
And yet the Kings successfully brought in Kevin Fiala for 80% of Eichel's cap hit.
Criticizing Blake for not acquiring Eichel is playing Monday morning quarterback.
Kings had signed Danault that summer. Eichel was traded a few months later.
Eichel/Kopitar/Danault down the middle would have been awesome, and better yet it probably would've prevented Vegas from winning the SC.
BUT, every trade / non-trade is a risk. NOT trading for Eichel is the move with more upside potential because you're betting your 2OA pans out as an elite player which would have been more beneficial to the organization.
Almost as embarrassing as some of the current Byfield takes. If I was to go back to the Eichel to LA rumors… the amount of terrible takes and character assassination that kept occurring here was mind blowing. And the “he’s toxic in the Locke room”
Would love to see anyone with talent feel like their career isn’t wasted while playing in the most pathetic franchise ever. Close second to Ottawa and Arizona.

People have said teams can't win with anyone making 8 figures. Which has been correct. Usually because such cap hits take away from building depth. Which has also been true.
They could've afford Eichel, but unless someone got hurt at the right time, someone else won't be here.
Hats off to Vegas to get someone to take 100% of Fleury's $7m contract at 36 for nothing too. Obviously whatever they're doing is right.
Trade beloved "franchise legends"(remember the stabbing Fleury in the back memes?), sign guys, flip them, who cares how they or teammates feel working for a rurhless organization, LTIR half the roster.
Almost as embarrassing as some of the current Byfield takes.
QB has the 2nd worst PPG for a player taken that high in the last two decades (and yes, the players he is being comp'ed to were the same age as him). What would be a more fair take on how he has played so far as a professional?
Has Quickie always had all that ink?Yeah guys.. Jonathan Quick doesn't look happy at all..
