F*** the Oilers. I can't wait for our new squad to bitch slap them again in the playoffs.

We are deeper than them again and can match the high end talent they have. Skinner is also bad. Fourgiev is bad, too, but I like our roster more than their roster.
We won’t even see them in the playoffs. Vegas will destroy them but then if they actually get out of the first round Vancouver will beat Vegas because they have some long standing strange Vegas voodoo thing going on

They are tied for 1st wildcard spot right now and only 6 points up on the 2nd wildcard and they keep losing. It’s possible
Nashville passed them tonight with their win so Vegas is WC2.

Problem is all of the non-playoff teams seem to be sellers, so the playoff spots currently is likely what happens. Only question is seeding.

We’d all love to see it… but what’s way more likely is the central winner faces Vegas in the first round.

More Roy stuff from Dom Luszczyszyn:

15. On Jan. 20, the Islanders’ playoff chances were 24 percent. They’re up to 60 percent now — call it the Patrick Roy effect.

Islanders fans were extremely vocal that Lane Lambert was holding a better-than-it-seems team back from its true potential. They were right on the money.

The big thing for me was how suddenly porous a usually stingy Islanders team looked all season. That’s the biggest thing that’s changed under Roy, as the team’s defensive game has been cleaned up considerably.

In 45 games under Lambert, the Islanders allowed 2.82 expected goals against per 60 at five-on-five (24th) and 9.82 on the penalty kill (25th). Private data actually felt that was generous to the team. Under Roy, things have shifted immensely. The penalty kill still isn’t strong, but it’s improved at least to 9.0 expected goals against per 60 (18th). The big ticket, though, is their chance suppression at five-on-five. Since Roy became the coach, the Islanders have allowed only 2.1 expected goals against per 60, a mark that leads the league.

That’s more like the Islanders we know and it’s propelled the team to an expected goals rate of 54 percent, a top-five mark. They look like they can do some damage come playoff time.

Flames, Kraken, Blues all with 67 points just 6 points behind Vegas. One of them might pass Vegas if they don’t snap out of this losing streak

I think Seattle might have a chance . They’ve only given up Wennberg

Did I just hear the Canucks announcer say Mikheyev has gone 30 games without a goal? That’s their 1st line winger, and this team supposed to contend for the cup?

Why was Podkolzin ever hyped?

Watching him play it's painful to see how he skates. He looks like he's trying so hard to move around the ice and he just isn't fast or mobile at all.
He developed early and was able to dominate physically against his peers. When that advantage was lost, his game didn’t have enough skill to fall back on… especially given his skating ability.

Big ice also hides skating ability. It seems counterintuitive, but the game played is with less pace and the more room given to the outside (and in general) tends to mean the game isn’t played as tight. So burst is not nearly as important.

Is this a post about Kakko or Pod?

(Ftr I still trust in Kakko becoming a great top six forward)
