No condescension really intended, my apologies. I just saw an opportunity to air out some of my frustration about the surprised and shocked reactions I'm seeing surrounding this matter, especially from our friends from across the pond. It feels like there's just this general sense of "can this be real?" from people despite the fact that Russia has been like this from the early 00s and is only being as brazenly open about it now that there's an armed conflict.

Like, this is nothing new, this is Russia. This is why Russia is still "an enemy", and should be treated as such. As a Finn, it really irks me that people seem to have forgotten or thought that stuff like this is beyond our times.

Really hope Fedotov gets to leave after his service. If he's even allowed to complete it without suffering career-threatening injuries. There might yet be some surprises in store for him, knowing the military there.
Russia is the result of the fact that the Soviet Union unlike Nazi Germany was never taken down by Western Powers and had its evil leadership charged with war crimes & the government replaced with civilized democracys, instead the evil that controlled the central government of the Soviet Union got to stay in power for decades, the successors of Stalin kept it going and even if they weren't as bad as Stalin they were still horrifying bad.

Even when the Soviet Union collapsed they had the same people still running the country its just their parties changed names and a few other things changed/rebranded, the KGB had their man waiting in the wings to take over (Putin) and they created a fake democracy where the house always wins and people are surpressed into voting for the Dictator for life as well as being misled.

The Kremlin was never ever gonna allow their people to have a legitimate democracy.
The Russian people have never had a legitimate democracy in history. From Czars to Dictators.

The "surprise" from many westerners, especially in US is because a large portion of this country's citizens live in reality distortion bubbles where their world view is whatever their favorite cable news channel or facebook memes tell them to believe. Dryish, you are Finnish right? You'd be fascinated at how little the avg US citizen knows about anything going on in the world outside their small little towns and their reality distortion bubbles.

Throw in face that lack of functional deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills are a result of 50+ yrs of one half of the US political structure destroying public education in US. Hence you get people running around US saying "why do kids need to learn algebra and calculus, that stuff isn't going to help them in their real life". The they wonder why people can't tell reality from fantasy and why most westerners are so easily led astray by demagogues and "powerful" dictators who give them illusion of freedom

Has there ever been this many young players before wanting to leave because of another rebuild ?
Chychrun, Eichel, Reinhart, Ristolainen. I can't remember it happening before.
Has me wondering if we'll eventually see the CBA allow for players to opt out of contracts and sign with other teams like NBA/MLB players do all the time.
Within 10 years or so.

Happy for Hampus. Would suck to commit to a contending team that immediately blows itself up. And now their dickhead coach is gone.

Even better, the dickhead coach is in Vegas, whose 1A or 1B (depending on where you side on the Stone/Eichel debate) has had friction with front offices and coaching staffs his entire career. Can't wait for them to self-immolate.

Vegas and Calgary will be worse, but technically Knights still should be a playoff team. We'll see, but it would be just a bit funny if Buffalo makes the playoffs earlier than the Knights

Way stronger than his peers and crazy good hands but I don't love the pace at all

Hutson and östlund were two I really liked.

Now to those few mainboard Leafs fans with an awkward sense of trade value, I can offer Knies +3rd for Shattenkirk + 4th to bolster their blueline and ensure a cup in their window before Matthews leaves :sarcasm:

The claim that the girl was underage is unclear. The Complaint indicates that she was 17 at the time. Apparently under Canadian law the general age of consent is 16, although it can be higher in certain circumstances. Age of Consent to Sexual Activity. In the US the age of consent is 16 or even lower in over half of the states.

What do you mean by lower? It's 18 in California.

Please see the linked article. What is the Age of Consent in All 50 States? | Legal Age of Consent Map

The age of consent is defined by state law. Some states also have, as stated in the article, a provision prohibiting a claim of statutory rape against an individual if they have sex with someone below the age of consent but are only a few years older than that person. The linked article refers to this as a "Romeo and Juliet" clause.

The name "Romeo and Juliet" comes from the play, where the language indicates that Juliet was 13 at the time of her death. There is not specific age given for Romeo but he is presumed to be 16 or 17. How Old Was Romeo And Juliet When They Died - Realonomics

Another article regarding the age of consent for California states that California does not have a "Romeo and Juliet" law, but the statutory rape violation is a misdemeanor, not a felony if: "the victim is three years younger than the accused or less. In comparison, when the victim is more than three years younger than the accused, the crime can be charged as a felony or a misdemeanor."

As strange as it seems, I had a friend whose 18 year old son put this to practical use. He was having sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. My friend talked to him about the risks of underage sex, and the son stated that he had looked up the law and was only risking a misdemeanor, so he was going to keep on having sex with his girlfriend. Fortunately no criminal charges, or outraged parents of the girl, caused any issues, and the son is now much older, and living with an age appropriate woman.

You can't solicit sex from a woman under 18 in Canada.

2003 Canada World Junior team is also now under investigation for sexual assault.
