It's pretty hard not to retire a guy's number who captained you to multiple cups but a statue feels like a lot.

I get that he captained his team to cups (he also had his captaincy stripped later on) but at the end of the day he topped out as a 60 point forward, teams need higher standards than retiring the jersey of low end first liners. Kopitar, Quick and Doughty were the engine drivers of that team, if the C was on any of their jerseys or anyone else for that matter that team is still winning two cups.

The Kings have never won a cup without Dustin Brown as their captain. Say what you want but that's a fact. A statue seems straight ridiculous though.

By those standards we probably owe a statue to Chris Kunitz or Andy McDonald then.

Number retirement is probably fine but arguably as others are alluding to, Kopi, Doughty and Quick all deserve it much more than Brown. May have to increase the wearable number limit to 3 digits soon

brown is 100% worthy of his # being retired as he captained them to 2 cups and was a mainstay for nearly 20 years, but a statue? lol

and i thought the oscar de la hoya statue was cringey

I still cannot fathom Dustin Brown getting a statue.... lol I'm definitely in agreement to retire his jersey but my goodness.

Is that the worst player in any sport to get a statue outside of an arena?? Legit asking.

Re the jersey retirement, it still seems like awfully low standards. Just because he had the C on his chest for his teams first cups doesn’t mean he’s a good enough player to warrant his jersey being in the rafters. He was a fringe first liner in his best years, teams should be reserving jersey retirements for the absolute franchise icons who are close to HOF talents. I would also argue that Kopitar was the true leader of those two cup winning teams.

Derian Hatcher was a much better player than Brown was for the Kings when he was with Dallas, he captained the team there for longer than Brown did in LA and was never stripped of his captaincy like Brown was. He also captained that franchise to their first cup. But his jersey isn’t up in the rafters because the Stars obviously try to maintain high standards for jersey retirements.

And yeah still can’t get over the statue. What an absolute joke.

Kings fans get weirdly passionate when it comes to defending Brown. A trashy franchise with a trash fanbase that had a piece of trash of a captain when they won their cups. They’re all made for each other.

Putting a Brown statue would be like putting a Fowler statue if he finishes his career here (Brown has the Captaincy even though they pulled it from him vs. Fowler is a better player and will be for longer/longevity IMO). About even.

Trevor Linden is to Vancouver as Dustin Brown is to the Kings. Fans (and broadcasters) worshipping a player who just wasn't nearly as special as they think he was.
