The Isles hired Lane Lambert, if that counts. Supposedly the Red Wings are also going for new blood, but Yzerman's lips are sealed so who knows what's going to happen there.
Oh forgot about him, that's right. Also, yeah, we'll see with the Red Wings. Apparently a sportsbook has Sergei Fedorov as the favorite, wouldn't that be a trip.

Another weirdly good fit IMO, DeBoer gets results right away but doesn't ever have much for longevity which fits with a Stars team that has to go for it now a bit and then probably a bit of a retool in the post Benn era.

Having said that, has there been a single hire from this period that isn't a former, experienced coach? Not saying good or bad, just peculiar; usually you'll see at least someone break through.
Stars have been hitting a lot of their picks for a while now. Stankoven, Johnston, to name a few. They seem to have a good crop coming up

isn't fedorov the HC of cska moscow?

given the NHL's reluctance to hire european coaches, i'd be surprised if he got the job

I doubt it either, surely even Vegas isn't even going to know what Stevie Y is doing, but I'd think this isn't your typical European coach. It's a guy on the leagues top 100 list and in this instance it's pairing up with a longtime former teammate for the team they played together on.

I'm thinking if there's a wave of European coaches in the future then it'll be a bunch of former stars leading the way. Fedorov, Olli Jokinen, etc.

What time are the awards?

I’m going out on a limb and will say the voters will get the Hart and Norris wrong. I’m also fairly confident they get the Vezina right.

Hopefully Zegras gets the Calder (I win a lot of money if he does). I think it probably goes to Seider though.

Hoping Z wins, but Seider should be the obvious winner IMO.

Never noticed that Matthews is actually really good at faceoffs. 56% this year and career 52%.
I think he won the hart because to the votes the Goals are as sexy as Home Runs, and consolation prize to the Maple Leafs fanbase ? Perhaps the tune of first californian born and latino to win the award could be used as marketing to get kids to pick up hockey over baseball/soccer.

Who should've won it instead?

I’m in the minority but when looking at context a far greater case could be made for McDavid. But 60 goals would have swayed a lot of voters, as would have voter fatigue.

I personally would have gone McDavid, Gaudreau then Matthews.

I think Kaprizov deserved to be higher, I would've been ok with Gaudreau or Shesterkin winning it. I agree that with McDavid it's voter fatigue, but like others have mentioned those 60 goals are just too sexy. When is the last time that's been accomplished?

Stamkos in 2012 I think it was and Ovi in 08. But scoring was significantly lower in the years they achieved it. Scoring was the highest this season since 1995 I believe.

Closest race in ages, but my assumption is that you do think they got it wrong given how hard you were (justifiably) pushing Josi for Hart consideration throughout the second half of the season.

Nope I did a complete 180! I was all on the Josi bandwagon until I looked at how sheltered his minutes were (in terms of the competition he faced) and how poorly his defensive metrics stacked up to the likes of Makar and other top dmen. Don’t get me wrong it was one hell of a season but after looking into it a bit more I thought Makar was more deserving.

Anyone think that the league might eventually include the option of putting 'opt out clauses' in contracts so the players can become UFA's after 1 year in a new contract
I feel like players such as PLD would want that if it was added in the next CBA.
That is one area of the NBA i really dislike, players opting out and making teams scramble to patch holes.

Should be the biggest fish in the next coaching cycle and with 11 guys hired in 2022 and 7 more in 2022, most of which are probably safe, that's not likely to be the biggest of ponds. I didn't think he was the right fit here this year but with some growth and some additions next year might make enough sense.

was surprised to see trotz is only 59. i thought for sure he was in his late 60s with how long he's been around

no reason for him to rush into any gigs this offseason, although i thought the jets job was a good fit for him. he's got at least another decade of coaching left in him

lol poor Winnipeg. In a span of a few days they’ve had their young #1 center say he isn’t in it for the long haul there, and now the best coach available, who was considered the favorite for Winnipeg, is like “I’m good with waiting another year or so” lol.

They also had their other #1 center basically say he's not gonna stick around and their captain seems ready to bail, too. I can see why Trotz didn't go there, I'm thinking they're in for a rough patch.
