Offseason boredom starting for the other 30 teams in the league, looking to fill the void left by Kane, who (if he has any sense in his body) will try to stay out of the headlines.

People are desperate to create scandals in this age of social media. Whoever posted the McDavid video (which is apparently from years ago) is a low life loser in my mind.

Red Wings are adding 6`5 Edvinsson and 6`8 Soderblom and I'm just here jealous for them. They have a good team coming up (just for the record, I think we will be ok as well)

cassidy is the new VGK coach

pretty underwhelming hire if you ask me. thought for sure they'd land Q or trotz. maybe the incompetence of the franchise is finally catching up to them

Cassidy is a good coach and strict disciplinarian - he holds people accountable. The negatives I've seen have to do mostly with his preference for veterans over young players; perhaps why some prospects have struggled in the Bruins' system when they get to the big club. He should be good for Vegas.

He's fine IMO. On the other hand, Philly is rumored to sign Torts. What are they thinking?

Torts may try to suck the life out of the game but he’s a really good coach who wins games. He’s not my cup of tea style wise but he gets results.
As much as I like to joke about him here and there, there are actually a lot of players who like and respect him. He might have some disagreements with players but what they say usually about him is that he cares about his players a great deal. That I can respect, no matter how some of our views are different. He's a good person, apparently

I'd be pissed if I was a Flyer fan. The guy is good at getting teams to overachieve though. I just think they should be rebuilding.

I also wonder if this makes Johnny Hockey skeptical about signing there.

He's just played for Darryl Sutter and his idol thrived under Torts and is still close with him. You never know but I suspect it wouldn't deter him.

stars hire deboer
Another weirdly good fit IMO, DeBoer gets results right away but doesn't ever have much for longevity which fits with a Stars team that has to go for it now a bit and then probably a bit of a retool in the post Benn era.

Having said that, has there been a single hire from this period that isn't a former, experienced coach? Not saying good or bad, just peculiar; usually you'll see at least someone break through.

The Isles hired Lane Lambert, if that counts. Supposedly the Red Wings are also going for new blood, but Yzerman's lips are sealed so who knows what's going to happen there.
