That was his downfall, Dean got attached to the major pieces of this roster, all of them, you can't do that. I think that's why many of us would like to see a major move via trade (not sure what goes out, McNabb getting taken would seem to make a defenseman less likely, but who knows).

Well if the reason the Saad deal happened was because Toews and Kane missed him, that's in the same ballpark of emotional attachment. Not even your own, but someone else's emotional attachment.

I'll be honest, if they realize they have no shot, it might be for the best.

Not saying that's the case, but it's taken a step in that direction in the last hour.

Oh, I was mostly joking. I still expect them to battle for a playoff spot and be around the 90 point mark. Do any damage in the playoffs though? No chance. Not with this roster.

I think Chicago was considering the age of the players and the cap certainty in this deal.

Murphy isn't chopped liver. He is 24 years old, and is under contract for $3.85M a season for five more seasons.

Hjalmarsson is 30 years old, and is under contract for $4.1M a season for two more seasons. He will likely looking for the retirement deal when. his current deal expires.

Actually not a bad deal for Chicago. They get much younger and a player they can hold onto with his current cap hit for the next five years.

Arizona gets a player many teams will pay for handsomely in a deadline deal either this year or next.

Was gonna say judging be reaction to the trade I don't think anyone outside of CA and AZ knows Connor Murphy  He's one of the players on the yotes that was truly underrated because everyone wanted to look at OEL. No doubt he'll do very well in Chicago. Particularly if he doesn't have to be on the top pairing though no clue what their plans for him are.

I'm more concerned about AZ's youth getting better than I am about Stepan and Raanta. Oh no, they acquired a 2C who gets treated like a 1C because he was the best of a bunch of crappy centers in a big market and a goalie with some potential.

He isn't a first but he's decent.

Arizona already gave LA a tough time. Now it gets a little bit tougher.

A lot will depend on who their coach will be.

Definitive statements about the outcome of games that have yet to be played are always funny. Unlikely? Sure. No chance? I can think of a way or two that it could happen, even with this terrible roster.

So that's what, Stepan-Dvorak-Strome down the middle for PHX? That has some potential for sure. Blake is probably just going to stand pat, not sure what deal he could pull at this point.

While New York gets the 7th overall pick + dman with high potential + cap space for Shattenkirk.......Stepan was already a 2nd line center forced to play on the top line......who is their 1st line center now? Zibanejad? Miller?

I totally understand Chicago going for a bit of a retool, but I REALLY don't like the value of those trades from a Hawks perspective
