Kopi is at $10.5MM, right? Signed in a lower cap environment as well.

McDavid will blow past $11MM unless he decides to take one for the team.

Kopitar is at $10M, but what is $500,000 among friends.

Never did I even imply that Doughty would take less than kopi. Just that we'd get some AAV relief because of his ending age. Which won't happen with Edmonton and McDavid.

Ah okay, sorry I didn't correctly interpret your comment.

Can't imagine Oshie is an effective player deep into that contract, and we know a thing or two about those "well, our window will be closing anyway" contracts :P

People keep referencing Crosby's contract but it was a different cap era back then. But what Crosby had the benefit of that I'm sure McDavid will as well is massive endorsement deals. Then again, that didn't stop Toews.

Tax? :sarcasm:

That's the Problem with NA pro sports. The contracts handed out get ridiculous at some point. I know that's why k17 mentions another lockout with the owners pushing for non guaranteed contracts. I'm not a fan of guaranteed contracts with the dollars and term being thrown around either.

I would hate to be a gm because it's not as easy as just being a hardliner as that has downline consequences. If you don't pay market rates, you will be void of talent and will end up being a farm team to some team that does hand out hefty contracts. Once a team gets that reputation of being stingy, agents would be advising their clients to avoid them as well. I'm sure the PA also doesn't help the cause either....

The Oshie deal just set up toffoli for a monster contract on his UFA deal.

LOOOOOOOL, ****ing TERRIBLE deal. These GMs are insane.

It's not insanity. It's the cost of doing business. This is why players in all sports have fought for free agency. As soon as you get a second GM/owner willing to pay you, you have the leverage. It's also why there are strikes(or a strike), lockouts, and a salary cap.

If Washington doesn't sign Williams, I wouldn't mind bringing him back for 2 years at $2.5 MM or less. I know he is older now, but there is literally nothing available in free agency. On a short term deal, Williams cannot hurt us and may do well with Kopitar again. We can also reunite the Williams-Kopitar-Brown line :handclap:

I think that ship has likely sailed.

If you wanted to give Williams $5m per year for the next 2 years, he might sign. Money would be the only reason though. He's won, his wife is from NJ or whatever, the kids, etc. If you're going to throw $3m or less at the guy, why not just stay east for the same money? Easier all around for him.

Caps sign Oshie to 8 year deal, AAV $5.75MM. WOW! I guess no big names this free agency.

Wow what a horrific deal.

Williams to the Pens would be fun to watch.

Oshie has only hit the 20 goal mark 3 times in his career. He'll be 31 this year.

Dustin Brown has had 5 20 goal seasons.

You mean Brown has hit the 20 goal mark 5 times. He's only hit 30 once.

Oshie is extremely overrated. Never understood the enamor with the guy. He's a really good 2nd line forward.

Yes correct.

I think he got a lot of hype after that shootout with Russia in the Olympics.

He's a fine player and all, but he's nothing special.

Wow. 8 years $5,75M, really?

Man I'd think twice about paying him $5.75M for the player he is today, not to mention the player he's gonna be in eight years.

I don't think Williams will sign with the Kings. I agree with others saying he's staying close to his hom in NJ. He's also still really close with Mike Richards.

But I have been known to be wrong before.
