I like poking fun at superstitions. 🪄

A molestation joke, way to stay on brand. One of the few topics the church knows more about than money!
Yeah you’re a funny dude. I’ll leave you be. Enjoy the fruits of cynism cynurgy! I personally like seeing people and entities get money and then do great and helpful things with it, but hey, that’s just me!

The Vatican Library reportedly contains the largest collection of pornography in the world.

Or so I saw on a tv documentary once…
Among other things. The Vatican is a weird place from what I understand. Churches around the world are plenty deserving of criticism in multiple different areas. But not all churches are created equal, and painting any group/people/religion with a broad brush is usually wrong and intellectually lazy.

So which one is the biggest and the baddest?

I agree 100%, here's to hoping churches start paying taxes!
Why do they deserve any tax money. You don’t get bent over enough? You want more?! I think the government gets their fill of our tax dollars and they usually don’t do much with it. The pentagon can’t pass an audit. They won’t track money to Ukraine. They’re recklesss idiots. I’m good with them not getting more money from good people.

Why the hell shouldn't they get taxed, there's no good reason they should be exempt. It's a total racket and that shit needs to stop!

So you are suggesting that they should be taxed to help pay for social programs, wars, ngos, and illegal aliens? GIMME A BREAK! The bigger racket, by far, is the federal government. And it ain't even close! History was that the church was where you go for social programs, kids programs, social help, how is it now better?

I'm saying they should be taxed like any other business gets taxed. You can bitch all you want about how taxes are used (I'm sure you never drive on the roads right?!), it doesn't matter, tax their asses just like everyone else, they are not special and should not be exempt!

If you tax churches you'd have to start taxing all non profits. I'm guessing most people wouldn't want charities to pay a tax on donations, money that in many cases has already been taxed with the donor.

They already are in a sense. Businesses pay taxes on profits. Churches don't have profits, therefore, no tax liability.

This is amusing as a history buff. We have Byzantine discussing churches' tax exemption. At the time, monasteries often owned, cultivated, and rented lands, and their increased holdings took taxes off the ledger.
I don't know if today's churches hold revenue-yielding assets, though, so this is merely an historical observation.

I just finished the entire Follett Kingsbridge series. A funny popcorn version of the interplay between monarchy, church, and we’ll say … labor …

Religious institutions have always had numerous ways to raise revenue. There's a monastery in my small Kansas town that has a gift shop where you can buy an array of stuff, some made by the monks. However, generating revenue to fund operations is not the same as being in business for profit.

Care for some Benedict's Brittle?

Bringing up how taxes are paid to repair our streets is so insignificant to how we spend the money. In the US CONSTITUTION it is stated that taxes are voluntary and should be a means to pay off war debt. You are advocating that the people should be beholden to the government instead of charities. I would go as far as questioning taxes altogether and it would be better for the people to keep their money and direct it straight into charities!
