If Vermette would sign for dirt cheap (ie. $1 million or less), I'd be in favor of the Pens signing him as the 4C to replace Cullen. He'd bring a lot of the same things Cullen did to that spot.

This is so random

I completely agree. Arizona has Hanzal (who is usually good for 15-20 games missed due to injury) and Brad Richardson (who is a 3rd line center on a team with horrible C depth and a 4 C on a team with pretty good C depth) on the NHL roster. They might consider Ryan White an NHL 4th line C but that's pretty nutty. Dylan Strome and Christian Dvorak are both Cs but neither has ever played a professional hockey game. They've got Dauphin and Gaudet in the minors, but that would mean they intend to move Richardson up to 3rd C, which kinda sucks because Vermette(3)-Richardson(4) is a hell of a lot more effective than Richardson(3)-Gaudet/Dauphin/White(4). This is a clear downgrade.

Exactly. Have to make room for some of the kids.

True. If he was getting the lion's share of his pts on the PP and he's no longer got a spot on the PP than Brad Richardson (who doesn't get PP mins already) is an adequate replacement.

Richardson had 31 EV pts last year while Vermette had 21 EV pts last year. I guess if Antoine's PP mins are going to be stripped from him, than Richardson is just as good a #3 C.

Like someone else said, He would be a perfect replacement for Cullen if he would sign cheap enough. What a strange ****ing move by ARI if this wasn't to set up a big deal.

I bet Vermette is loving this other then having to leave home. Chance to pick whatever team he wants to go win a Cup again.

Weird move.

They got rid of one of the rare UFAs who wanted to play in Arizona... Vermette's NMC might have been an issue but this move is certainly not going to help Arizona attract UFAs.

Also with Ribeiro and Vermette's buyouts, Arizona now has 2.7 millions of dead money on their cap for 2017-2018... That's a start but I guess they'll need more moves in order to replace Pronger and Datsyuk's phantoms cap hit.

No. None can. It's all HIGHLY dependent on the performance of key rookies in camp.

I suspect the 1st line is locked in tight with Domi-Hanzal-Duclair. Beyond that, it's a crapshoot.

OK, that's fair enough.

Carolina should sign him and trade away one of Nordstrom/McClement. He fits the defense first team philosophy and can play center in case Lindholm doesn't cut it. He could also pair with Staal to form a great shutdown line/PK unit.
