But forreal John Chayka is a meanie for not trading him straight up for DD, he could've saved money on the buyout!

what does this even mean... he scored 17 goals, how can he only have 12 primary points.

It means he scored most of them on the PP.

He had 12 ES primary points which likely means Arizona played him above his head last season. That's why fancy stats are kind of **** sometimes.

Ya this doesn't make much sense unless Arizona has something big brewing.

Even if they wanted to roll with Strome and Dvorak down the middle, Vermette can still play #3/4C.

I hate when people tweet stuff like this. Sure maybe he wasnt producing a ton at 5v5 but being able to produce on the PP is still important as well. Being near 0.5 ppg is pretty solid regardless of if you are getting the points on PP or 5v5

Is it important when those minutes are likely to not be available for him next season?

Taking the past 3 seasons into account, his relative corsi stats were the best in 2015-2016. They were pretty bad during all of those seasons but it's not like this is a "hard decline".

He had 8 goals and 4 primary assists in 5v5.

But thats exactly what Burtch is suggesting... That he is still effective but in a limited role such as a PP specialist.

Know what you are getting.

So this is rather interesting, huh.

Overall:

In 919:28 of ice time, Vermette had 16 points in 5v5.

Close:

In 559:24 of ice time, Vermette had 6 points in 5v5.

So we could conclude that he's pretty useless when the match is close, or in other words "when it matters".

When he probably will not get pp minutes in his new role, i think its pretty important for the team thats gonna pick him up to know that he struggles ALOT to produce 5V5

Even the Vermette from last year is a big help to many teams around the league. I don't think he's more than a 3rd line center, and ideally on a contender, he's your 4th line center, but he's still very serviceable. I'd really like to see Anaheim sign him for a year with Thompson injured for almost the entire season. That said, someone will overpay him because there will be plenty of suitors available.

I mean if they are 100% sure then yeah its a difference but I don't think they should be thinking that way.

I mean look at Dallas. They have the best offense in the league and use Patrick eaves on the first PP a decent amount because while he may not be the best forward, and it actually far far far from the best on Dallas, he helps out PP a bunch

Quality of competition? Quality of line-mates?

10-11-21 at ES isn't the end of the world if he's your third line center.

This is what happens when you hire a advanced stats nerd instead of a hockey man to run the show

Loosing a good player for nothing because of some random 5v5 PPG% ES differential blah blah blah :shakehead
