I don't think he's in Coach Q's Christmas card list

He had better of been by the end, given that it was the Blackhawks 3rd and 4th lines that won the SCF for them (along with Crawford).

The top talent essentially neutralized each other.

People seriously need to stop just looking at points. Vermette noticeably declined over the last few years and it's obvious if you watched him play and didn't just look at point totals. He was a passenger for most of the year before Tangauy showed up and obviously didn't fair well with Chaykas analytics. I think there is a deal that might be in the works but it might just be to make room for Strome and or Dvorak.

I don't think the Leafs will want him. He fits into the same boat as Lupul, Laich, and Michalek. I would expect similar production from at least 2/3 of them and Lupul is the only one who has a chance a top 6 minutes this season.

That is good news for Oilers fans then since we're second on the waiver wire.

I'd easily take him on the Preds. Even if he is just a PP specialist, our PP has been horrendous for several seasons now.

Wrong side of the puck you are thinking for Vermette. He's a PK type of guy, good defence and steady play. Limited offensive upside but isn't bad with more skill players.
IMHO I'd look at claiming him before a buyout, I don't mind a 1 year price tag at that much. He's a quality team guy, can play wing and centre. He'd allow the Canucks to run a trio of Vermette Sutter Burrows as a 2B line for shutdown. Also added 10-15 goals to our top 9 is never a bad idea when you have the 3rd worst offence in the league last year. Not to mention keeps him away from actually adding a needed piece to the Oilers.

I would have thought the Yotes could have gotten at least a midround pick for him.

3.7M for one year? For a guy who will probably hit 35-40 pts? Doesnt exactly seem like he's an untradeable asset.

Exactly. He's not putting up 65 points again, but he's a strong 2 way player, who's good on the dot

His play doesn't really suggest that though. He has had problems suppressing shots against the recent years and his offense just doesn't seem to be very strong at all.

His play in Chicago is probably a good predictor of what his offense will be like as he drops down the lineup. He obviously isn't going to be a top 6 in Edmonton so I don't think he is worth the risk of bringing in for a bottom 6 role.

Kinda a shame he seemingly took less money to go back to his home with the Yotes and that set extra play way to much.

If he was on almost any other team where he would mainly be a 3rd some games 2nd line center at tops he would work out, the fact that Hanzal has always been hurt and nothing else was there made him play way too much and get too much PP time. Yeah his corsi numbers aren't helped by trying to play a defensive role somewhat style while playing in the top 6 as well, he's not the Bergeron, Kopitar, Toews level guys who do that.

great example of differing opinions between those looking at numbers and those who watch the Coyotes every game as we do. Vermette looked lost for most of last year. Often beaten badly leading to horrible penalties at the worst possible times.

When I saw the news story pop up on my phone I was more than a bit surprised. I didn't realize that his play fell off so much. Guessing this is a buyout more for the contract spot than the cap hit. Kind of surprised that now Vermette, Cullen and Dom Moore are still available Aug 1.

Played well when he was paired with Tanguay though. Just being a devils advocate here

He had 12 primary points 5V5 last season.....
He isnt very good but he has some solid things in his game. I dont get why they just dont give him bottom 6 minutes. Imo they are a better team with him in the lineup. Weird move.

He does 40 points a season. Cap is 3.7m for 1y.

ARI is trying to save the salary by making someone claim him off the waivers?

what does this even mean... he scored 17 goals, how can he only have 12 primary points.

Even if this is true, putting up almost 0.5 PPG is still valuable, no matter what. A trade should be possible, with Benning if nothing else.
